The Food Bank of South Jersey tells us that it's running out of food and running out of money. The Food Bank sent a special appeal to Trenton and that's why Chris Christie is here at the Food Bank in Pennsauken.
The Governor just got a huge round of applause from the people here at the Food Bank -- the staff, the members of the Bank's Board, the many volunteers and everyone who is involved with this outstanding operation.
The Governor says he's here as part of his administration's "Season of Service" -- a time to roll up shirtsleeves and get involved.
The Governor has just announced that the DRPA (Delaware River Port Authority) just voted today to make a grant of two million dollars to the Food Bank.
He says this is in response to a 43 percent uptick in New Jerseyans needing the services of groups such as the food bank.
The Governor also says that providing food to those in need is part of everyone's responsibility and that getting involved in organizations such as this should be "an act of affirmation" in our own lives. "This is part of the ethos of being an American and it's part of the toughness and the greatness of being a New Jerseyans," the Governor says.
"Spread the blessings you have and share them with others," the Governor says.
