Singer and legendary entertainer Andy Williams is said to be near death in Los Angeles where his family has gathered.
Williams has reportedly told everyone: "Don't be sad. Just remember the way we were.
Williams was diagnosed with bladder cancer and his doctors have now sent him home from the hospital and say there is little more they can do for him.
Williams is 84 years old.
As his children gather round his bedside for final farewells, a family friend reportedly said: “They are all very sad to see their father suffer but he has told them all not to cry for him and remember him when he has gone through the music he has loved all his life.”
Williams leaves a big musical legacy. He hosted his own television variety show in the 1960's and early 70's, racked up a string of worldwide hits with such classics such as Can’t Help Falling In Love, Solitaire, The Way We Were and Reflections.
Moon River, written by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini, became his signature song after he sang it at the 1962 Oscar ceremony.
Last November Williams was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He announced the fact on stage but told fans that he was determined to fight it and would be singing again this year. He went for treament at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas, but the family friend said yesterday: “Sadly, a stent inserted in his bladder became infected. He has been in constant pain and lost all his hair due to chemotherapy and radiation treatments. There was nothing more his doctors could do for him.”
