'Chasing Dreams' At National Jewish History Museum

Chasing Dreams Called "Altogether Inspiring," "Tantalizing"
The Philadelphia Inquirer, BBC, WHYY, and other outlets across the country and world have heaped praise upon our new exhibition, Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American.

In the three short weeks that Chasing Dreams has been open, we

have seen thousands of engaged and excited visitors (including many Philadelphia-area school children) enjoying the stories we tell, objects we use to tell them, and the programming we have created to complement the exhibition.

This groundbreaking exhibition would not have been possible without the support of many generous donors.

Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American is on view at NMAJH through October 26, 2014, after which it will travel around the country to other museums and venues.

That's how the New York Postonce headlined Brooklyn fans' affection for Cal Abrams. The Philadelphia native made his debut as number 32 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. But when he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1953, Abrams opted for the number 18 because of its significance in Jewish tradition, where the letters in the Hebrew word for life, chaiadd up to 18 (chet = 8 and yod = 10).

Swing by the Museum's first floor to see baseball cards featuring Abrams and 84 other Jewish players from the early days of baseball to today. They were selected from a large collection of baseball cards -- featuring Jewish players -- on loan from Dr. Seymour Stoll and a special part of Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American
