Dear Fleisher, is a contemporary art exhibition and sale of original works of art in 4x6 postcard size. Over 600 works by 300 artists across the United States are exhibited anonymously and sold on a first-come first-served basis for $50 each. While the size and price are uniform, works are available in a wide range of mediums and styles. The anonymity of the exhibition encourages viewers to react to the work and select pieces based on their visual interests. The modest price provides access to a large audience and allows nearly anyone to acquire an original work of art. Only after selecting and purchasing a piece will a buyer learn the identity of the artist. Admission to the exhibition is a suggested $5 donation and includes light refreshments.
For an advanced look at the exhibition, Dear Fleisher, kicks off with a preview party in the gallery Friday, November 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. An additional six works of art created exclusively for the preview party by an honorary committee of artists will be offered by raffle during the evening. The honorary committee includes Mohamed Bourouissa, Astrid Bowlby, Amze Emmons, and Elizabeth Osborne. Each work is framed by Ursula Hobson Fine Art Framing. Tickets for the preview party are $100 and are available by calling 215-922-3456 ext. 300 or online at www.fleisher.org.
"The range of works and the fact that it levels the playing field for access to original art makes Dear Fleisher, an incredibly important exhibition," says Elizabeth Grimaldi, Fleisher's executive director. "As it brings together so many artists - from professional artists, to Wind Challenge participants, to current and past Fleisher students - Dear Fleisher, is a testament to the vibrancy of our community."
All proceeds from Dear Fleisher, benefit Fleisher's award-winning art education and community programs. Since its inaugural exhibition in 2004, Dear Fleisher, has exhibited thousands of works by over 1,000 artists and raised over $200,000 for Fleisher's programs.
The Fleisher Art Memorial was founded by industrialist Samuel S. Fleisher in 1898 and is renowned for its mission of making art accessible to everyone regardless of economic means, background or artistic experience. Fleisher Art Memorial is one of the nation's first community-based art centers, providing free and low-cost studio art classes along with opportunities for beginning and seasoned artists to exhibit their work in a professional gallery setting.
Fleisher's arts education programming reaches deeply into local schools and community centers, and has brought the organization national recognition and powerful opportunities to advocate for and shape arts education initiatives throughout the region and the country.
