Pennsylvania State Senator Lloyd Smucker released the following statement announcing his campaign for Congress:
“Today, I am excited to announce that I am running for Congress. As a small business owner who understands what it takes to make a budget, I promise to be an effective problem solver who will go to Washington, D.C. to build consensus on issues that will benefit the residents of the 16th Congressional District, including improving efficiencies in government and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
“Since Congressman Joe Pitt’s announcement last week, I have received an outpouring of encouragement and support from all across the 16th Congressional District for my candidacy and that played a major part in my decision to seek this important office. We live in a diverse district made up of hard-working people with strong values. I want to take our shared commitment to commonsense problem solving, hard work and strong family values to Congress.”
State Senator Lloyd Smucker was elected in 2008 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. Senator Smucker’s biggest priorities during his term include championing measures that focus on providing a world-class education to all Pennsylvanians, helping to develop a more equitable education funding structure, pushing for a reduction in the size of the legislature, seeking the implementation of a gift ban for legislators and additional measures to provide openness and transparency in government.
Senator Smucker and his wife Cindy have three children, Paige, Regan and Nicholas, and live in West Lampeter Township.
