Mr. James Strandberg Named Principal of Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School
Mr. James Strandberg, Monsignor Bonner Class of 1997, has been named principal of Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School (Delaware County), effective August 8, 2016. Mr. Strandberg had been serving as the interim Principal since June 2016 and as Assistant Principal for Student Affairs since 2009.
Mr. Strandberg has spent his entire career in secondary education at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast. In his role as Assistant Principal for Student Affairs he was responsible for overseeing all student activities and athletics, including graduation, baccalaureate, assemblies, and other school sponsored events as well as assisting the Principal with integration of Catholic identity and culture into all school sponsored activities and events. He has also taught Honors Pre-Calculus/Calculus as an adjunct teacher at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast since 2006. In addition, prior to his time as Interim Principal and Assistant Principal for Student Affairs he served as Director of Marketing and Recruitment where he assisted in increasing and maintaining freshman acceptance by 20% in both 2005 and 2006.
Mr. Strandberg holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Education, and Certification in Secondary Mathematics, from Widener University. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Leadership degree and Principal Certification from Widener.
In reaction to his appointment Mr. Strandberg said, “I am very excited about the opportunity to continue working at my alma mater but in a new role. The family and community of Bonner & Prendie make this a very special place. We will continue this tradition of being a welcoming environment, rooted in Gospel values, that educates young men and women for a challenging tomorrow.”
Mr. Hugh Quigley Named Principal of Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti High School
Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti High School in South Philadelphia has named Mr. Hugh Quigley, a graduate of Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Class of 1996, as its new principal. This appointment was effective on August 1, 2016. Mr. Quigley has served as the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs for the last four years. In this role he has provided instructional support for a number of the school’s faculty by engaging in weekly observation and feedback cycles and also coordinated the launch of a pilot program for data-driven instruction in the 4th Quarter of the 2015-2016 school year, which was piloted by four faculty members and will be rolled-out to staff during the 2016-2017 academic year. Prior to his time at Neumann-Goretti he spent eight years in the engineering and construction industry.
Mr. Quigley holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with a Minor in Business Administration and a Master of Science Degree in Teaching, Learning, & Curriculum all from Drexel University.
Mr. Quigley said of his appointment, "I am humbled to have the opportunity to continue to serve my community as a Catholic high school leader in South Philadelphia. I look forward to learning and growing with our students and their families, our Faculty and Staff, and all stakeholders as we continue our work together transforming our school to enhance the academic outcomes for all students."
