Appropriately, It All Starts With PRAYERS!

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will be the principal celebrant and homilist at Mass in observance of Saint Patrick’s Day on Sunday, March 11, 2018. 

The Mass will be held prior to the step-off of the 248th annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Philadelphia. The parade is scheduled to step off at 12:00 p.m. that day.

Concelebrants of the Mass include Most Reverend Donal McKeown, Bishop of Derry, Ireland and Reverend Kevin J. Gallagher, Pastor of Saint Dennis Parish in Havertown (Delaware County). The Philadelphia Emerald Society Pipe Band will lead a procession from Saint Patrick Parish Rectory to the church at 9:00 a.m.

Following Mass, Father Gallagher, who serves as parade Chaplain, as well as Bishop McKeown and the 11 young musicians from Saint Malachy College High School, Belfast, N. Ireland, will join marchers in the 248th Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. The theme is Saint Patrick, Bless Those Who Respond to the Call of the Needy.

Dennis Kelly, Division 1, Havertown, Ancient Order of the Hibernians (AOH) in conjunction with Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School has been hosting student musicians and athletes from Saint Malachy’s for over a decade. The Saint Malachy’s Traditional Orchestra is scheduled to perform in both the Springfield Saint Patrick’s Day Parade (Delaware County) scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2018, which steps off at 12:00 p.m., as well as the Philadelphia Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 11th.

In addition to the parade performances, the young men from Saint Malachy’s will spend the day at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast (403 North Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA 19026) attending classes with students on Thursday, March 8th. To close out their visit and kick off Saint Patrick’s Day Week AOH Dennis Kelly-Division 1-Havertown and Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast will present Saint Malachy’s College Traditional Irish Music Group of Belfast, North Ireland, on Monday, March 12th at 7:00 p.m. for a free concert at the Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School Auditorium. Donations will be accepted during this free concert to help offset the travel costs associated with the students’ tour of the United States.
