Poll: Voters Feel Sense Of 'National Humiliation'

The revelation this week by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that thousands of U.S. green card holders have been left behind in Afghanistan has voters worried that these Americans will become Taliban hostages, and most agree it is a “national humiliation.”

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 73% of likely U.S. voters believe it is likely that green card holders – permanent, legal U.S. residents – left behind in Afghanistan will be used as hostages by the Taliban, including a 48% who say it’s very likely. Only 16% think it’s unlikely the Taliban will use Americans as hostages in Afghanistan. Another 11% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
