Five Things That Happen When You Get 'Old'

Not that I would know very much about this, but here are some observations from a friend who would know:

1) When you get "old" people look right past you. They don’t even see you. You really have to go out of your way — you have to “work it” — to be noticed.

2) When somebody talks about what might happen or what things will be like “20 years from now” you turn off because you probably won’t be here anyway, so it makes no difference to you.

3) You remember things that happened 40, 50 or even 60 years ago quite vividly (or at least you think you do) but when you start to recount them, nobody cares.

4) Other old people look really, REALLY old to you but, if you’re fortunate, in your mind you neither look nor feel that way.

5) You start to write something, but about midway through you forget much of what you intended to say and start to drift off.

Here my advice to my friend: The older you are, the more important it is to surround yourself with young people. Don't bore them with your stories. Instead, take an interest in them and listen to them first. You'll likely gain a valuable new perspective and, before you know it, you'll feel rejuvenated.
