Yet Another Iconic Employer Leaves New Jersey

From the Garden State Initiative:

New Jersey just lost another iconic employer.

After 86 years in Newark—the birthplace of M&Ms—Mars Wrigley is relocating its headquarters to Chicago.
The move will result in 307 layoffs, bringing the total number of jobs impacted by WARN notices in New Jersey this year to nearly 9,700, according to NJBIA. It follows recent announcements from companies including Samsung Electronics and ExxonMobil.
The trend is hard to ignore. Last week, CNBC ranked New Jersey 50th in the nation for business friendliness.
New Jersey cannot afford to keep losing employers, jobs, and investment. It's time for leaders in Trenton to focus on policies that encourage businesses to grow, invest, and create jobs—not give them reasons to leave.
