Small Town America: The Essence Of What It Means!

On Memorial Day, does anything say "America" better than the observance of a small town --  a town united in its devotion to our country and to those who gave their all?
These scenes are from this morning's Memorial Day commemoration in a nearby small town here in South Jersey.
This is America!
May it always be  so.

Well, It Seemed Very Impressive To Us . . .

President Trump addressing the recent Boy Scout Jamboree with an audience of 40,000 scouts.
BTW: President Trump's predecessor NEVER attended a single Boy Scout Jamboree during his eight years in office.

No Thanks, They'll Stick To Tradition!

From our friends at Save Jersey:

Some people in New Jersey are hopping mad that the Boy Scouts of America organization is not ready to welcome transgender boys into their midst. But the group is sticking to tradition.

Joe Maldonado, originally called Jodi, was part of Cub Scout Pack 87 in Secaucus, New Jersey, for a month before being asked to leave -- because he is not a biological boy.

"How dare they judge me?" the child, who is just eight years old, told The Record. "I don't have to explain it. I am the way I am." While one can feel sympathy for any child struggling with an important issue -- his statements sound an awful lot like an adult's.

Instead of, "How dare they judge me?" the question should really be: Why should the Boy Scouts relinquish years and years of tradition for one person? Transgenderism is not settled science.

Dr. Paul R. McHugh, a Johns Hopkins distinguished service professor of psychiatry and the author of six books and at least 125 peer-reviewed medical articles, wrote in a 2015 commentary for The Wall Street Journal that those with transgender issues suffer from a mental problem he termed a "disorder of 'assumption'" -- the idea that their maleness or femaleness is different from what nature biologically gave them.

He also reported on a recent study showing that the suicide rate among transgendered people who had reassignment surgery to change their biological gender is 20 times higher than the suicide rate among non-transgender people.

The Boy Scouts recently opened up membership, as well as leadership opportunities, to both gay youth and gay adults. But gender identity is a different matter than sexual orientation to the Boys Scouts of America (BSA), The Washington Times reported.

BSA spokesperson Effie Delimarkos said Maldonado does not meet eligibility requirements to join the Boy Scouts. The organization was not aware that Maldonado was not biologically male at the time he registered.

"During the process, it was brought to our attention that their child does not meet the eligibility requirements to participate in this program, so Boy Scouts of America leadership reached out to the family to inform them and share information on alternative programs," Delimarkos said in a statement.

"If needed, we defer to the information provided for an individual's birth certificate and their biological sex," Delimarkos also stated. "Scouting teaches its youth members and adult leaders to be respectful of other people and individual beliefs."

It remains to be seen whether the group will cave to the pressure of a few. Today, even membership in a group that has a basic requirement -- gender -- will be dragged over the coals by a vocal minority that seek change for change's sake. And there is no more effective weapon for that change than a child who has been "discriminated against."

Don't Be Fooled By That Boy Scout 'Evolution'

The great Christine Flowers has written a wonderful column in today's Philadelphia Daily News and it's been picked up by the Dallas Morning News and other papers. It concerns the Boy Scouts of America's recent decision to allow gay scoutmasters.
Here's an excerpt:
Scouts will now be taught that gender and sexual orientation are fungible things. In other words, their scoutmasters and den mothers no longer have to keep their sexuality in the closet, and can publicize their intimate lives.
Because really, that's what BSA national head Robert Gates meant when he said that gay, and to a lesser extent lesbian, adults will no longer be barred from positions of authority in the organization.
Up until now, gay and lesbian employees of the Scouts were welcome to participate in all activities and at all levels, just so long as they didn't talk about who they were sleeping with. Sexual preference, which had no relevance to the good work of the organization, was an inappropriate topic regardless of orientation. My mother was a Cub Scout den leader for a few years in the 1970s and not once did she start a meeting by handing out juice and cookies while saying, "You know, boys, Mr. Flowers and I have a fulfilling sex life."
Eight-year-olds don't care, 10-year-olds might care, 12-year-olds do care and 14-year-olds are 14-year-olds, but none of them should have to confront the issue of their adult leaders' sexual orientation at the Pinewood Derby.
That's why this whole same-sex crusade to drag the Scouts into the tolerant light of the 21st century is so hypocritical, as are the pious pronouncements from advocates about how "it's for the kids."
No, it's not. As I've been saying for years, ever since the City of, ahem, Brotherly Love bullied the local Cradle of Liberty chapter into either accepting gay Scout leaders (and, as an afterthought, gay children) or vacating the building they'd erected, paid for and maintained for almost a century. The Scouts won that battle, but it was ultimately a Pyrrhic victory once Anthony Kennedy started writing his Harlequin Romance novels, disguised as legitimate legal precedent.

66-Year-Old Becomes Eagle Scout!

Philadelphia's 6ABC Action News has a heartwarming story about a determined new Eagle Scout:
66-year-old Bill Hartman is getting ready for the night of his life - the night he goes from Boy Scout to Eagle Scout.
"This is the highest I can go, can't go no more," he said. And getting here wasn't exactly easy.
It took Hartman, who has cerebral palsy, 25 years.

Scouts' Honor

So Michael Nutter is "astounded" that the Boy Scouts had the "audacity" to file a lawsuit against the city.
Join the club, Mayor.
I'm also astounded. And elated. And I'm definitely not alone.
It finally looks as if the local Cradle of Liberty chapter has stopped playing by the Marquis of Queensbury rules, and is taking on the municipal bullies
who've been persecuting them since Nutter's predecessor sat in his bugged office.
We all know the gory details, but here's a brief chronology:
