Why are we supporting a university that is so out of touch with the people who pay the bills?

And, who pays the bills? We do!

This year alone, direct state appropriations, state and municipal grants and state student aid to Rutgers totals more than a HALF BILLION DOLLARS.

How Rutgers Squandered Any Claim To 'Diversity'

Liberals claim to love “diversity,” Save Jerseyans. But what does it truly mean to them?

As you’ve already heard, the Rutgers Board of Governors had planned to pay Rice $35,000 for her commencement address and award an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to the former Secretary of State. Due to growing opposition among the school’s students and faculty, Dr. Rice decided not to give the May 18 address.

It’s a shame that Condoleezza Rice was effectively denied an opportunity to speak at Rutgers simply because of a student body and a Faculty Council that felt she was an inappropriate choice due to her involvement in the Bush Administration; because, they claim, she misled the American people in Iraq about weapons of mass destruction.

Who is REALLY being misled in this situation (and by whom) is the subject of my inquiry…

In her very thoughtful statement announcing the decision to withdraw, she graciously wrote, “Commencement should be a time of joyous celebration for the graduates and their families. Rutgers’ invitation to me to speak has become a distraction for the university community at this very special time.”

Sean Hannity had asked Rutgers University history professor Rudolph Bell if he would support President Obama speaking at commencement even though he misled the American people when the Commander-in-Chief infamously claimed, “If you like your plan, you can keep it” in reference to Obamacare.

Bell replied that “[t]he reason for inviting Obama would be because of his office, the same as Gov. Christie, I would have no objection to inviting them.”

Huh?

What Bell didn’t say is that the same Rutgers students or University Faculty Council would not have objected to letting the POTUS speak, full-well knowing he outright lied about his statement, because they agree with his ideological worldview. They’re not interested in an honest exchange of ideas!

As if anticipating my criticism, Bell shortly thereafter added, “I’m not trying to silence her at all. She’s entirely welcome to come as anything but commencement speaker.”

So what he is saying there, I suppose, is that he would put Rice in the same category as ‘Snooki’.

Professor Rudy Bell is hypocritical to the extreme and if you read the Hannity interview transcript, Save Jerseyans, you can see how he twists, turns, dodges and evades a response to any direct question. That’s how professors like Bell teach our students to not to have an open mind without really admitting they don’t want to listen to anyone who is of a different opinion.

I also wonder if Hillary Clinton, should she decide to run for US President, would receive the same reaction if she were invited to speak particularly in light of new proof that she was responsible for the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, State Information Officer Sean Smith, Navy Seals Glen Doherty and Tyrone S. Woods.

Again, overwhelming evidence has been uncovered to prove statements made by Clinton were false, and that she did deny requests for help. No one can say Dr. Rice knowingly lied about anything even if you emphatically disagree with her approach to foreign affairs.

Here’s one that isn’t hypothetical: Jersey Shore’s “Snooki” Polizzi was paid $32,000 to speak at Rutgers. She offered important advice on her hairstyle, fist pumps, as well as gym, tanning, laundry and lifestyle. She left students with this pearl of wisdom: “Study hard, but party harder.”

Worth $32,000? But Dr. Rice isn’t worth $3,000 more?

Lest we forget that Condoleezza Rice SHOULD be a hero of the left but for the “R” at the end of her name. She was the first female African-American secretary of state, the first women to serve as National Security Advisor, and a professor of political science at Stanford.

As Stanford’s Provost, Rice was responsible for managing the university’s multi-billion dollar operation. The school at that time was running a shortfall of $20 million. When Rice took office, she promised that the budget would be balanced within “two years.” Stanford’s deputy director, Coit Blacker, said there “was a sort of conventional wisdom that said it couldn’t be done… the deficit was structural, that we just had to live with it.” Two years later, Rice announced that the deficit had been eliminated and the university was holding a record surplus of over $14.5 million.

Could Snooki have pulled THAT off?

Moreover, few people probably know Rice was a Democrat until 1982, the year when she decided to change her political affiliation to Republican in part due to the fact that she disagreed with the foreign policy of Democratic President Jimmy Carter.

Another factor was the influence of her father, a Republican. At an RNC Convention in 2000 she said “My father joined our party because the Democrats in Jim Crow Alabama of 1952 would not register him to vote. The Republicans did.”

The list goes on and Rice’s credentials are impeccable. Her knowledge of foreign policy is vast and her presentation is unquestionably erudite. She is a smart, tough, along with being a deeply religious woman. She is probably one of the most qualified women to date ever asked to speak at a Rutgers commencement.

So who is truly committing a crime and misleading the next generation, Save Jerseyans? The faculty? Or Dr. Rice?

Rutgers University and those who claim to love “diversity” lost out, but far more distressing is the fact that they passed on the opportunity of a lifetime for thousands of non-consenting students who quietly went to class, paid their tuition bills and didn’t plan any commencement ceremony disruptions.

I’d be willing to be that Condoleezza Rice’s words of wisdom to college students about to enter the real world would not have been “Study hard, but party harder.”

Kyrillos: Rice's Treatment An 'Embarrassment' For NJ

New Jersey State Senator Joe Kyrillos (R-13) issued the following statement in response to the decision of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to not participate in the commencement ceremony at Rutgers University following protests by students and faculty:

"Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s reluctant decision to not give the Rutgers class of 2014 commencement speech is an embarrassment to both Rutgers and New Jersey.

"Despite one’s political beliefs, Secretary Rice’s life story is a great one, a strong example of the amazing accomplishments that can be achieved with determination and her message would have been an inspiration for new graduates.

"It is a shame that select faculty and students at Rutgers censored her for having views different than their own and goes against everything for which our state university should stand."

How Rutgers Disgraced Itself -- And New Jersey

Rutgers University has disgraced itself.
By allowing a group of ham-fisted ideologues to squelch free speech, the university has apparently shown itself to be just another left-crazed bastion of unithink in the increasingly looney world of academia.
Yes, a group of faculty thought-enforcers (we won't dignify them by terming them "professors") and some of their sycophant-in-training students managed to make such a commotion (including a destructive sit-in) over the selection of former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's as this year's commencement speaker that  Dr. Rice finally declined the invitation so that she would not be a distraction at an event that is designed to be celebratory for the students and their families.
"I am honored to have served my country." Dr. Rice said. "I have defended America's belief in free speech and the exchange of ideas. These values are essential to the health of our democracy. But that is not what is at issue here. As a Professor for thirty years at Stanford University and as its former Provost and Chief academic officer, I understand and embrace the purpose of the commencement ceremony and I am simply unwilling to detract from it in any way."That Rutgers allowed this to happen is a disgrace.
Of course, Dr. Rice did the correct thing.
She's a classy lady and a renowned academic in her own right.
She didn't want the commencement to be about her. She wanted it to be about the students; about learning; about scholarship and great ideas and the future. She knew that could not happen under the circumstances that these whiney malcontents concocted  -- indeed, that the university allowed them to concoct.
Radical liberals have now effectively taken over the faculties of once great universities -- and Rutgers appears to be among them.
Where the free and vigorous exchange of ideas used to prevail in a climate of complete academic freedom we now have a rigid code of enforced leftist thought and behavior. And, incredibly all of this is done in the name of "tolerance and understanding."
We now have faculties composed of legions of insufferable, aging "flower children" who never left the 1960s, who never really entered the broader workforce, who've worked within the narrow, confined, airified world or academia all their lives. These people are far removed from reality and are not ordinarily subject to the usual compromises and reasonable accommodations that the rest of us face day in and day out. They simply will not listen to, will not accommodate, will not welcome views in opposition to their own. And these are the people who are molding young minds. Imagine!
This is not about Dr. Condoleezza Rice and her qualifications, experience or tenure as Secretary of State.
Rather, this is about free speech and the free and open exchange of ideas not just in academia but throughout our society. This is also about the thuggish and relentless enforcement of thought and speech codes in an academic environment.
And, on a broader level this is also about the devaluing of excellence and achievement, and the rigorous thought and debate and hard work which should define true scholarship. When we cast these values aside and replace them with trivialities, sloganeering and the exaltation of cheap thrills and tinhorn, pop-culture heroes, we are in deep trouble.
But that's what's happening.
And Rutgers University is allowing it to happen.
Shame on them!

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has agreed to a three-book deal with Crown Publishers, starting with a memoir about her years in the administration of President George W. Bush.
"Rice will combine candid narrative and acute analysis to tell the story of her time in the White House and as America's top diplomat, and her role in protecting American security and shaping foreign policy during the extraordinary period from 2001-2009," according to a statement issued Sunday by Crown, a division of Random House Inc. Crown also published then-Sen. Barack Obama's "The Audacity of Hope."
Rice's book is planned for 2011.
Rice, 54, also will write a memoir about her family, scheduled for 2012, and a young-adult edition of her family book that will come out at the same time. None of the planned works are currently titled.
