Protecting our country is what we ask our law enforcement community to do each and every day for their fellow Americans. The Department of Homeland Security reminds us that the brave men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are no different. These selfless Americans put themselves in harm's way each time they go to work to look out for their neighbors and their country.Their stories are remarkable, though you likely wouldn't know it from watching the nightly news. In the past few weeks alone, agents have rescued a 6-year-old Costa Rican childabandoned in 100-degree heat by a smuggler, seized a cache of assault weapons that included 962 rounds of ammunition, and intercepted more than $4.2 million worth of alleged crystal methamphetamine.
These agents do difficult, dangerous work that affects Americans' lives far beyond our border—they keep communities across the country safe from drugs, violence, and the consequences of human trafficking. They deserve our gratitude, not calls for the elimination of their agencies, as more and more prominent Democrats are beginning to do.
A 400-year-old relationship
President Trump welcomed Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands to the White House yesterday for bilateral talks on trade, investment, and security. "The relationship between the Netherlands and the United States is over 400 years old," Prime Minister Rutte said. "We are allies. We have always been friends."When it comes to trade, President Trump made it clear that the key word is fair. "We are very close to making some very good trade deals—fair trade deals. I didn't want to say 'good'; I wanted to say 'fair'—fair trade deals for our taxpayers and for our workers and our farmers."

SHOCKER: 4th Of July NOT America's Birthday!
The 4th of July isn't really America's birthday.
Instead, the 2nd of July.
That's right: The 2nd of July is America's actual birthday.
So, America is really two days older than she says she is.
How could this be?
During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.
That's when America actually declared itself separate and apart from Great Britain.
The day was thought to be very momentous. Thus, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:
But July 2nd is, technically, America's birthday.
And it all happened in Philadelphia -- the city that came to be known as the Cradle of Liberty.
May all Philadelphia -- and all of America -- celebrate!
And that reminds me that this also happens to be a very special birthday for former Philadelphia Bar Association executive director Ken Shear.
Happy Birthday, Ken -- and many, many more!

The fifteen members of the Senate Republican caucus issued the following joint statement this morning:
“To be clear, these are failures of Democrats alone.
“Even this morning, a day after Governor Murphy, Senate President Sweeney, and Assembly Speaker Coughlin stood together to announce an agreement on billions in spending and tax increases, they continue to argue over exactly how to raise taxes on New Jerseyans.
“Nothing, in any of their proposals, would stop the flight of New Jersey’s suffering families and employees to other more affordable states. To the contrary, all of their plans would make that problem worse.
“This single-party government run by Democrats has failed New Jersey. Our great state deserves better."

In response to Trenton Democrats various proposals to increase taxes on New Jersey’s residents and businesses by billions of dollars this year, State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) issued the following statement:

“Recently New Jersey offered Amazon 5 billion dollars to locate its headquarters in Newark. It is difficult to believe that as New Jersey offers Amazon a 5 billion dollar incentive with one hand, it is pinching their pockets and all business pockets in New Jersey with the other hand. Perhaps they were hoping Amazon would not notice.“This type of business incentive/non-incentive insanity simply reinforces New Jersey as the least business-friendly state in the country. The billion dollars in new employer taxes proposed will wipe out any goodwill New Jersey may have earned through corporate giveaways.
“This is not a way to attract and retain businesses in New Jersey. This is not the type of government the citizens of New Jersey deserve."
