Caffe Valentino, South Philly

We discovered a new South Philly BYOB last night: Caffe Valentino at Wharton & Moyamensing near Queen Village.
Valentino is informal and welcoming with great pasta dishes and a nice array of entrees and salads.
We enjoyed the arugula salad and entrees of Penne All'Arrabiata and Linguine all'Amatriciana. The linguine was sauteed with pancetta and onion in a fresh tomato herb sauce. The penne came in a spicy tomato sauce. There are more than 20 pasta dishes on the menu ranging from $10.95 to $16.95. Everything is cooked fresh, to order and the service is personal and efficient.
We topped it off with double espressos and limoncello.
After dinner we ventured to Old City and enjoyed a magnificent ice cream treat, the Mount Vesuvius at Franklin Fountain. This consisted of home made vanilla and peanut butter ice cream, hot fudge, malt, pieces of brownies and fresh whipped cream. It was an exceptionally warm night in the city and Franklin Fountain was jammed. Old-fashioned, yummy fun in the city!
