A friend writes about last night's Marian Anderson Award event in Philadelphia:
Just wanted to share that last night I was to the Marion Anderson Award Concert honoring Bill Cosby at the Kimmel Center. What an evening! The concert started at 8;30pm and didn't end until 11:35pm--no intermission either. And, except for the hour, I don't think anyone wanted it to end.
With all the problems and tensions in our world, it was nice to just relax and enjoy an evening of entertainment. Chita Rivera was the mistress of ceremony. She hasn't aged since I was young! They had all sorts of music presentations--from opera, to jazz, soloists as well as groups. All top notch with a Philly connection.
And, for comic relief another native--David Brenner who is always funny. He and Cosby have been friends since they were both young.
And, what was nice, everyone was dressed. No jeans nor sneaks! Too bad it can't always be that way.
Anyway, Cosby was as funny as always. He reminisced about growing up here.
It was truly a wonderful evening and I am glad he was honored.
Bill Cosby is the pride of Philadelphia -- and a national treasure. Bravo!
