In a huge shakeup tonight at Penn State University, the university's president, Graham Spanier has been removed and football coach Joe Paterno has been fired as well.
The actions were taken by the university's Board of Trustees at this evening's meeting.
Paterno had earlier announced that he would complete the football season and then retire but that is not to be.
Word is that the crowd at State College audibly gasped when Paterno's firing was announced. The board would not comment on Paterno's reaction but he was told earlier Wednesday evening.
President Graham Spanier is also out and Rodney Erickson will be interim president,
Tom Bradley takes over as football coach.
