We're in Manhattan at the Chrysler Building to hear from Blank Rome government relations experts participating in a panel as part of the series of events surrounding the annual confab of the Pennsylvania Society.
This session is a review of the past year and a look to the year ahead with (as you might expect) a special emphasis on the economic problems now faced not just by our own country but by the European Union and nations throughout the world.
Obviously, these folks know that dealing with the budget deficit will be a problem that will have to be faced not just by those elected in 2012 but by public officials for years to come and by future generations.
In the discussion here, high marks are being given to Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey who has just completed service on the budget supercommittee and who tried his damnedest to be a conciliator and get the committe to agree on something. But the issue came down to cutting spending vs. raising taxes and it was difficult to bring the two sides together.
We're hearing from Blank Rome's top government relations experts including Ashley Davis, Dwayne Andrews, Singleton McAllister and Malloy McDaniel.
Top ten international economic worries are topped by the European debt crisis. Other major worries include America's debt crisis and high unemployment, the financial crisis in Brazil, the possibility of unrest in the Middle East and the growing inflation in China and possible unrest there.
There's a lot to worry about folks. These are difficult times -- difficult, indeed.
