'Sound Of Music' Star Dies At 91

Eleanor Parker

Though it had little or nothing to do with Christmas,  people still associate The Sound of Music with the holiday season. And the appeal of the musical (and the lavish movie that it spawned) lives on.
But the stars of the award-winning film are slowly dying off.
And now the baroness is gone. You remember her -- she was the cool and reserved beauty who was determined to marry the handsome Captain Von Trapp played by Christopher Plummer.
She was Eleanor Parker and she has passed on at 91.
"Eleanor Parker was and is one of the most beautiful ladies I have ever known," said Plummer in a statement when he learned of the death. "I hardly believe the sad news for I was sure she was enchanted and would live forever."
Parker appeared in more than three dozen movies, acting opposite many of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men, including Clark Gable, William Holden and Glenn Ford.
Known as a character actress, she was reportedly so adaptable that she became known as "the star with 100 faces."
