Guadagno Kicks Off NJ Business Export Tour

Kicking off her 2014 statewide tour highlighting New Jersey businesses that are growing by exporting their goods and services internationally, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno yesterday visited Thomson Lamination Company Inc. (TLC) in Maple Shade and International Products Corporation (IPC) in Burlington.

“New Jersey’s export industry plays a vital role in advancing the state’s economy and creating jobs. These companies are proof that New Jersey businesses offer goods and services that are competitive and marketable on a global scale, “ said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno. “Through the efforts of the state’s Office of International Business Development & Protocol, we are working diligently to help businesses identify important export opportunities. The Christie Administration applauds the success of Thomson Lamination and International Products Corporation and extends our continued support as they enter global markets.”

Established in 1964, Thomson Lamination Company Inc. (TLC) provides the design and fabrication of precision carbide dies, laminations produced from a vast variety of specialty electrical steel alloys, the annealing of magnetic materials and the production of complete electric motor subassemblies, including rotors and stators.

TLC provides services to the medical, aerospace, military, machine tool and commercial markets. In order to control all elements relating to product integrity, TLC designs, fabricates, and assembles all production tooling in-house in Burlington New Jersey. The company has an international client base in the United Kingdom, France and Israel.

Last year, Thomson Lamination was awarded a $10,000 State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grant. Funded by federal grants through the Small Business Adminsitration (SBA) and matching funds from the state, STEP is designed to help increase the number of small businesses that are exporting and to raise the value of exports for those small businesses that are currently exporting. The STEP grant award helped cover costs for Thomson Lamination to attend the CWIEME Coil Winding Expo in Berlin, Germany in June, 2013 where they were able to broaden their reach to international clients.

“It is an honor to have Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno visit Thomson Lamination today,” said Sterling A. Martin, President of Thomson Lamination Company Inc. “We are extremely thankful for the support that we received from the state that enabled us to participate in the world’s largest trade show in Berlin, Germany.”

Founded in 1923, International Products Corporation (IPC) produces and markets two lines of specialty chemical products; precision cleaners, and temporary assembly lubricants. The company serves an international market with customers in the commercial, industrial, government, and academic sectors. IPC reaches these markets through a combination of distributors, direct sales, and internet marketing techniques. In 1984, International Products Corporation opened IPCW Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary that serves as a sales and distribution office for the products of IPC. IPCW, Inc. services the UK and European Continent.

Last year, IPC received $1,800 in STEP grant awards that supported the US DOC Gold Key Services for market research to China and South Korea. US DOC Gold Key Services are provided by the International Trade Administration. The service helps businesses expand their global reach and arranges appointments with pre-screened overseas agents, distributors, sales representatives and business partners. This cuts the time and cost to businesses in locating and vetting prospective trade partners.

“We are extremely grateful for the support and expert guidance we have received from the state and it is indeed an honor have Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno visit our company,” said Kathy Wrofsky, President of International Products Corporation. “The Christie Administration and the efforts of the state’s Office of International Business Development and Protocol have provided valuable assistance that has helped opened a number of doors for us to meet and network with decision makers for our products in other countries.”

New Jersey currently ranks fifth in the U.S. in the number of small business exporters in the State, with more than 14,400 New Jersey small business enterprises currently selling goods and services in foreign markets.

Created within the Department of State’s Business Action Center (BAC) in 2012, the Office of International Business Development and Protocol’s mission is to attract foreign direct investment and assist New Jersey companies with export opportunities. It is also responsible for managing all aspects of export promotion activities, and establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with the foreign business investment community.

Businesses considering a move to New Jersey or in need of assistance are encouraged to call New Jersey’s Business Action Center at (866) 534-7789 or visit the State’s Business Portal at www.newjerseybusiness.gov.
