A Busy, Productive Week For NJ GOP!

Here's a recap of the week just ending from the New Jersey Republican Party:

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY COMING TO NJ TO CELEBRATE GOVERNOR CHRISTIE’S 52nd BIRTHDAY –

NJ LEGISLATURE PASSES GOVERNOR CHRISTIE’S BAIL REFORM PACKAGE, PROVING REAL ACTION IS POSSIBLE WITH BIPARTISAN LEADERSHIP –
 
The New Jersey Assembly on Monday passed Governor Christie’s package of reforms to overhaul the state's broken bail system. While the federal government allows for violent criminals to be held without bail, New Jersey’s constitution does not, thereby allowing even the most dangerous criminals to be released and commit new crimes while nonviolent defendants are often unable to afford bail and left stuck in jail. Now two key measures of the approved bail reform package will be put forth as a constitutional amendment on November’s ballot for voters to decide on.
 
Governor Christie applauded the Legislature’s action on Monday and underscored how progress and real action are possible with bipartisan leadership. In case you missed it last week, here’s a video of the Governor discussing the ways New Jersey sets the example for bipartisan policy:
 
 
 
 
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR GUADAGNO TRAVELS ACROSS THE STATE FOR A NUMBER OF EVENTS THIS WEEK –
 
Acting Governor Kim Guadagno had a busy schedule this week, making several trips across the state for a number of events. On Tuesday, Acting Governor Guadagno continued her “Tourism Tuesday” campaign visiting WheatonArts in Millville to highlight the cultural and historical significance of the glass industry, one of South Jersey’s oldest and most successful industries.
 
 
On Tuesday afternoon, Acting Governor Guadagno headed to Camden to visit Campbell Soups headquarters. During her visit, Acting Governor Guadagno praised a 3 year partnership between the company and the Food Bank of South Jersey that just last year, raised $90,000 for the nonprofit organization. Acting Governor Guadagno was joined by Camden Mayor Dana Redd for a tour of the facilities and to taste the “Just Peachy” salsa – a product of the Campbell and food bank partnership.
 
 
Acting Governor Guadagno on Thursday headed to Cape May to visit the United States Coast Guard Training Center (TRACEN) and continue the work of the New Jersey Military Installation Growth and Development Task Force. Thursday’s tour marks the fourth stop for members of the Task Force, which is chaired by Acting Governor Guadagno and is charged with develop an effective plan for the long-term growth and viability of NJ's military bases and Coast Guard installations.
 
 
 
 
CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT: GARRY COBB FOR CONGRESS IN CD-1 –


Garry Cobb is running for the open seat in New Jersey’s first congressional district, vacated earlier this year by Rep. Rob Andrews. After college, Garry was drafted in an 11-year NFL career and played as a proud Philadelphia Eagle. After Garry’s retirement from the NFL, he began a career as a sports radio announcer and commentator for the CBS-owned Sportsradio WIP.

Garry has lived in New Jersey for over 20 years and continues to maintain a high level of civic engagement within the South Jersey and Philadelphia communities. He frequently counsels and serves as a mentor to inner city youth, as well as has been actively involved in a number of Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey youth programs and non-profit organizations. NJGOP TO HOST NEXT CAMPAIGN SCHOOL IN HUNTERDON COUNTY IN SEPTEMBER –
 
The NJGOP staff will be in Hunterdon County on September 6th to host our next campaign school with the Hunterdon County Republican Committee from 9:30AM to 1:00 PM. We’ll be covering a number of topics, from campaign fundraising to political communications, for candidates, campaign managers, and operatives to learn the most effective strategies for successful campaigns.
