Sen Joni Ernst In Philly For GOP Event

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst will speak at the 2015 Northeast Republican Leadership Conference as part of the Grand Old Party Political Action Committee’s (GOPAC) Friday evening reception, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason confirmed today.
“Senator Joni Ernst is a rising star in the Republican Party,” said Gleason. “Senator Joni Ernst is a patriot who has dedicated her life to serving her home state of Iowa and her country. From her time in the military to representing the voice of her fellow Iowans in the United States Senate, Joni Ernst has demonstrated a tremendous passion for our country and its citizens.  I look forward to seeing my fellow veteran Senator Joni Ernst in Philadelphia this month.”

GOPAC Chairman David Avella praised Senator Ernst’s for her conservative voice in the United States Senate.

Senator Joni Ernst is a mother, solider and independent leader who is committed to bringing the Iowa Way to Washington, D.C.
Growing up on a farm in Montgomery County, Senator Ernst quickly learned the value of hard work and service to others. These are the same Iowa values Ernst has fought her entire life to promote and protect.
 Ernst attended college at Iowa State University where she joined the ROTC program. To help pay for college, Ernst with worked the morning biscuit line at Hardees, as well as construction jobs with her father during the summer months.
Following graduation, Ernst joined the U.S. Army Reserves. From 2003 to 2004 Ernst served as a company commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom where her unit was tasked with running convoys through Kuwait and southern Iraq.
 Today, Senator Ernst has more than 20 years of service in the military and continues to serve as a Lt. Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard. She has been privileged to have commanded at many levels from company to battalion.
 In 2004, Ernst was elected to office as Montgomery County Auditor, where she worked to protect hard-earned taxpayer money and reduce government waste.  In 2011, she was elected to the Iowa State Senate where she helped turn Iowa’s $900 million deficit into a $1 billion surplus.
On November 4, 2014, Joni Ernst was elected with 52 percent of the ballot share to represent Iowans in the United States Senate. She won with an 8.5 percent margin, won 75 of Iowa’s 99 counties, and all four of Iowa’s congressional districts – including her opponent’s home congressional district. Senator Ernst is the first woman elected to serve in federal office from the state of Iowa, and is the first female combat veteran to serve in the United States Senate.

 In Washington, Senator Ernst serves on four important Senate committees, including: Armed Services; Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
