Time To Address This Very Serious Problem . . .

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has signed legislation sponsored by Senators Christopher “Kip” Bateman and Michael Doherty establishing a task force to address Raritan and Delaware River flooding in Somerset and Hunterdon counties.

“We took great strides last month in Bound Brook by moving forward Green Brook Flood Risk Management Project,” Senator Doherty said. “However, we still need a comprehensive plan to ensure all communities along the Raritan and Delaware Rivers have the tools and information needed to prepare for severe flooding. I look forward to reviewing the task force’s findings and finally implementing longterm solutions for our residents.”

Under the law, the Hunterdon-Somerset Flood Advisory Task Force will review past flooding events in Hunterdon and Somerset counties from flooding of the Delaware and Raritan rivers and their perspective tributaries and to make recommendations for mitigating future flooding. The task force would also review the effectiveness of county and local emergency response plans.

“As a lifelong resident of Somerset County, I have seen far too many homes and small businesses that have been irreversibly damaged by flooding,” Senator Bateman said. “The residents who continue to come to me with these concerns deserve answers, which is one of the many reasons why we advocated for establishing this task force. After generations of coping with serious flooding, it is relieving to know that we now have a pathway to protecting our communities from future severe weather events.”

Cirucci served as Associate Executive Director of the Philadelphia Bar Association for nearly 30 years. He served as Chair of Penn State University's Professional Advisory Board for the Corporate Communication major at Penn State Abington and on the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Judicial Selection Commission.

He received his MA degree from Rowan University and his BA from Villanova University. He has been named a Distinguished Alumnus of Rowan's public relations program and received the E. A. "Wally" Richter Leadership Award, the highest honor from the National Association of Bar Executives' Communications Section. He has also been honored by numerous other local, state and national groups.

In his hometown of Camden, Cirucci taught fifth grade at the Ulysses Wiggins Elementary School named for the founder of the Camden NAACP. There he was one of the first teachers in the country to teach African-American history to inner city students. He later served as editor of a local weekly newspaper, as Assistant to the Township Manager of Cherry Hill Township and as Associate Director of Communications at the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Cirucci's passions include all things Italian, politics, the popular culture, books and authors, art, communication, music, theatre, movies, dining and travel.

He and his wife Carole have two grown children and seven grandchildren.
