They're positively rabid in their devotion. Change the color from green to red and it could just as easily be a Trump rally. And that's not the only similarity! |
Donald Trump has said "bad things happen in Philadelphia" and when the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018 there was no customary congratulatory oval office visit with the President as several team members said they wouldn't attend. But that doesn't change the fact that President Trump and the Eagles have more in common than one might think.
So, now that the confetti has been cleared from the streets of the Eagles' Big Parade, think of the presidency as the Super Bowl and consider the similarities:
- Trump and the Eagles have both been considered underdogs and both have repeatedly celebrated their underdog status. They love being underestimated.
- Both have passionate devotees who follow them wherever they go and whatever they do. Both Eagles fans and Trumpsters make up a loud, gritty cadre of fierce followers.
- Both the team and President Trump have felt they've been repeatedly disrespected and both have scrappily fought back to gain respect.
- Both Trump and the Eagles and their fans have their share of enemies and both have long memories. They relentlessly thumb their nose at their enemies and reward their loyal friends and both embrace an anti-establishment mentality.
- Trump won the Big Prize, lost it and them came back to win it all again eight years later. The Eagles won the Big Game, lost it and then came back to win it all again almost eight years later.
- Trump's first win was an upset pulled off in the final stretch and the same is true of the Eagles. Trump's second win was a romp and the same can be said of the Eagles.
- Both the Eagles and Trump changed their lineup after losing to come back and win again. The Eagles made some key trades to shake up their ground game and their strategy. Trump brought in a new running mate, campaign manager and other top strategists proving you really can teach an old dog new tricks.
- The Eagles seem more confident and comfortable with success after their second triumph and so does Trump. Both finally seem at home with the championship mantle and both are being viewed as far more formidable the second time around.
