New Jersey State Senator Parker Space (R-24) blasted Governor Murphy for deflecting blame over New Jersey’s skyrocketing energy costs, calling the administration’s excuses both “delusional and dishonest.”
“The mental gymnastics performed by Governor Murphy and New Jersey Democrats to dodge responsibility for this crisis would be impressive if they weren’t so blatantly dishonest,” said Sen. Space. “They blame PJM, President Trump, and even national Republicans—yet ignore one simple truth: Democrats have run Trenton for the last eight years. They own this crisis, plain and simple.”
During an interview on News12’s Ask Governor Murphy, Governor Murphy asserted that he’s taken an “all-of-the-above” approach to energy while pinning blame for supply shortages on PJM and President Trump.
“Murphy’s so-called ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy was really an ‘all-in on offshore wind’ gamble that collapsed, squandering billions of taxpayer dollars and producing nothing,” Sen. Space continued. “Companies like Orsted bailed on New Jersey long before President Trump was even in office, and Democrats never cared about PJM auctions until it was politically convenient.”
Senate Republicans sounded the alarm on PJM’s capacity auction in September 2024 with an op-ed from Senate Republican Leader Anthony Bucco (R-25) titled: “Power Grids Gargantuan Price Increase is an Alarm Bell on Murphy’s Energy Policy.”
“Governor Murphy admitted he won’t apologize for these colossal policy failures that have stuck New Jersey families with the bill. In fact, he and New Jersey Democrats are adamant about doubling down,” said Sen. Space. “There’s only one ‘F’ in failure—and Governor Murphy owns it.”
