Word id the deal's been cut: Jim Thome is returning to the Philies.
He'll give the Phillies a left-handed bat and play first base, presumably until Ryan Howard completely recovers from his injury.
Thome is 41 years old.
He arrived in Philly with much fanfare earlier in the decade and then left to join the White Sox in 2005. He has also played for the Twins and the Indians. And, he's reached a career milestone: 600 home runs.
How much difference will Tome make? How important will he be to the 2013 Phillies.
All that remains to be seen.
But Thome should be pleased. Insiders say he's wanted to return to Philly all along.
