Our spies tell us that the Marriott Corporation may be looking to expand its Philadelphia presence in a major way.
Marriott already has a big chunk of the Philly hotel market with its Center City Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn and Courtyard properties all located within blocks of one another, encompassing thousands of guest rooms and huge amounts of meeting space.
But now Marriott is looking into the possibility of bringing its Renaissance and JW Marriott brands into center city.
We hear that an existing building near the new Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts could be converted into a Renaissance Hotel. As for the JW Marriott look for that to land in the Rittenhouse Square area, again in an existing structure.
Marriott has done quite well in Philadelphia by offering a variety of hotel brands and price points, giving travelers and conventioneers a choice of accommodations. Always competitive, Marriott has also completed a top-to-bottom redo of its flagship property adjoining the Convention Center on Market Street. The result is sleek, fresh and very impressive.
