Photos:The Inspiring Totems Of Ketchikan
During our tour of Alaska we viewed the magnificent totem poles in Ketchikan.
We began with a history of the trees as we walked to the park site.
Our guide then began to show us the totem poles and took us inside the clan house and spoke of the rich history involved.
It gave one the feel of what it would have been like to live in a Native American clan house. We also heard the history of the totem poles. After we were allowed to walk around a large grassy area and see different totems.
Nearby is a waterfront area we enjoyed a walk there.
These totems were built mostly by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s following stories, traditions and details handed down by Native Americans.
They are inspiring!
