On Thursday May 31st, Congressman Jon Runyan (R-NJ) introduced an amendment to H.R. 5854 that would prohibit funds from being used to modify any military installations outside of the normal Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. H.R. 5854 is the Appropriations Bill to set funding for Military Construction, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies for Fiscal Year 2013. Congressman Runyan’s amendment was passed by a voice vote.
“This amendment is yet another victory in our fight to protect the jobs and mission of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst” said Runyan. “However, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and stay one step ahead of any efforts to impose a back-door BRAC through informal channels. I will continue to work with our community in South Jersey and my colleagues in Congress to defend JB-MDL.”
Congressman Runyan is a Member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Veterans Affairs Committee. He serves as the Chairman of the Veteran Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs.
