Shame On St. Joe's. Bravo, Villanova -- Classy Again!

Shame on that St. Joseph's University player who gave Villanova fans the finger last night during that (as always) hard-fought hoops game between the traditional Philly rivals.
True to their rich tradition Villanova's team and fans remained classy last night.
They didn't respond directly to the crudeness of the St. Joe's player.
What the Wildcats did was simply go ahead and win the game.
It's sad that St. Joe's continues to have a chip on its shooulder when it comes to Villanova. The Hawks obsess over 'Nova like small-minded, jealous neighbors.
As for the Wildcats, we hardly ever even think of St. Joe's until we meet them on the court. And then our players use their mostly superior brains and their fingers (including the middle one) to make baskets and score points. For us, it's all positive -- just win, win, win.
Congratulations, 'Nova. You showed your class again!

What the player did was base and classless, but Villanova's record in this rivalry is far from spotless. Perhaps you don't recall in 2004 when the VU student section chanted "herpes" at Delonte West every time he was at the line? There are many other examples of this throughout the years.

The rivalry brings with it heated tempers, and occasionally someone steps out of line. This year it was Halil Kanacevic. But to associate his behavior (for which he has been suspended) with the entire school is shortsighted, especially considering behavior that has happened on the other side in the past. Both schools have students and alumni who are model citizens, and both hand students and alumni who are knuckleheads.
