You know the drill.
The House passes a pro-life bill. Then Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats filibuster it until it dies.
But today is different!
Moments ago by a 240-189 vote, the House passed a bill through the “reconciliation process.” This means the bill deals exclusively with the budget, and only requires 51 votes to pass the Senate. The bill is aimed at repealing portions of Obamacare and eliminating $400 million of federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
Because this bill will only need 51 votes to pass the Senate, Harry Reid won’t be able to stop it. But of course there’s President Obama. We both know Obama is sure to veto the bill.
However the exercise is far from a waste of time.
Votes put politicians on the record so voters can be told the truth on Election Day. Vulnerable Senators and Representatives who prey on voter confusion won’t be able to hide.
Moreover, votes demonstrate momentum for legislation that could one day become law when Obama is gone.
And that day is coming...
Three stalwart pro-life Senators are holding out -- believing this bill doesn’t go far enough. They want a full repeal of Obamacare. We support full repeal as well, but are hopeful Senate Republicans will find a way to work out their differences and move forward.
SUMMARY: Your calls, support and prayers are generating action. Momentum is building in the states and in Washington D.C. We’re pushing on your behalf every day. Don’t even think about giving up.
This is a long fight. We’re making progress.
