Whether the author/interviewer was feigning ignorance or not; whether it was a device or not, I still gained new insights into Sondheim the man and the artist from this thin volume. I almost felt I was right there alongside Sondheim myself. He was, for the most part, patient, curious, candid and spontaneous and he came across as a sort of world weary (though nonetheless charming) curmudgeon. I came away loving him more than ever!
