First Lady Visits Children's National Hospital

Today, First Lady Melania Trump visited Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., to meet with young patients, their families, hospital staff, and caregivers ahead of America’s Independence Day celebrations.

“The courage and resilience of the children and families at Children’s National is truly inspiring,” said First Lady Melania Trump. “It was a joy to celebrate Independence Day with them, and I share our nation’s gratitude for the doctors, nurses, and staff who provide exceptional care to young people every day. It is wonderful to see the strength of the American spirit—especially in the hearts of our bravest children.”

“We are deeply grateful to First Lady Melania Trump for her commitment to the patients and families we care for at Children’s National,” said Michelle Riley-Brown, President and CEO of Children’s National Hospital. “From helping us open the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden in 2017 – which continues to be a source of calm and comfort for so many children navigating difficult circumstances – to gifting the garden a special rose bush directly from the White House today, the First Lady’s kindness and compassion is a wonderful testament to the longstanding tradition of engagement of First Ladies with our patients here in the nation’s capital.”

Mrs. Trump joined children for an afternoon of patriotic arts and crafts in the hospital’s Garden Room. She decorated red, white, and blue-themed creations alongside children, sharing smiles and conversations with the young patients and their caregivers.

Afterward, Mrs. Trump stepped outside to the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, which honors the legacy of America’s First Ladies. She toured the Fourth of July decorations while also helping unveil a newly-planted yellow rose bush—a hybrid Tea Rose donated by President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump from the White House greenhouse—as a gesture of hope and renewal. White House Grounds Superintendent Dale Haney was on hand to provide insight on the new addition to the Healing Garden.

As the visit concluded, Mrs. Trump made a quiet stop in the Heart and Kidney Unit of the hospital, where she met privately with a 3-month-old patient and his family as well as an 8-year-old patient and his family. The personal visits offered moments of comfort, strength, and heartfelt connection.
