Day After: Obama Chokes Up In Remarks To Staff
A newly re-elected President Obama turned pensive, nostalgic and even vaguely sentimental in remarks to his Chicago campaign staff yesterday.
And, in a rare display of emotion, the president choked up a bit and had to wipe away tears.
The remarks appear to be totally impromptu (there are a lot of "ahhhhs," and "ands" and "you guys" here). Obama tries to express his feelings and gratitude but at one point he has to remind the staff that he's not transposing his experiences onto them or seeing his younger self in them, but rather he sees a crop of new talent that he deems better than he was.
You get the sense that Obama is wondering where all the years went and what lies ahead. On the heels of victory, it's somewhat bittersweet.
