Independent Business Federation Endorses Christie

Continuing to gain substantial support from business leaders throughout New Jersey in his campaign for reelection, Governor Christie today was endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Standing in Hoboken in front of Carlo’s Bakery with owner Buddy Valastro and NFIB New Jersey Leadership Council Chairman Joe Olivo, Governor Christie also announced the roll out of the Small Business for Christie coalition, which will be chaired by Valastro and co-chaired by NFIB State Director Laurie Ehlbeck and Atlantic County Freeholder and Formica Brothers Bakery Owner Frank Formica.

“Governor Christie has been consistently supportive of small business and our members strongly believe that he deserves a second term,” said Joe Olivo, owner/operator of Perfect Printing in Moorestown and Chairman of the NFIB New Jersey Leadership Council, in endorsing the Governor.

“NFIB is proud to have been one of the first business groups in New Jersey to endorse the Governor’s election four years ago and he has earned the support of small business owners every day since then,” said National Federation of Independent Businesses State Director Laurie Ehlbeck. “Governor Christie has kept small business at the top of his economic agenda and, in turn, has created a positive financial climate where small businesses have opportunities to grow and succeed. I am proud to offer our support to Governor Christie and stand with him in this campaign.”

With nearly 800,000 small businesses located in New Jersey, small businesses represent 98.4% of all employers and more than half of the private sector labor force. In 2010, small businesses employed as many as 1.7 million New Jersey workers.

“Easing the burden on our state’s small businesses and helping them expand, grow, and create opportunities in our communities was one of my top priorities when I ran for this job four years ago. So I am extremely proud of both the support I’ve earned from leaders of New Jersey’s small business community, as well as the work we’ve done to deliver for small businesses in New Jersey,” said Governor Christie.
“We’ve returned fiscal sanity to our state budget without raising any taxes and we’ve delivered overdue relief in the form of $2.35 billion in small business tax cuts, spurring the creation of over 143,000 private sector jobs. That record makes a day like today possible, and I am extremely proud to stand here today with the support of NFIB, Buddy, and dozens of small business leaders from all 21 counties.”

On Monday Governor Christie was endorsed by Carlos Medina, Chairman of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey – an organization that represents 70,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in New Jersey that collectively contributes $10 billion to the state’s economy.

Since taking office, Governor Christie has fought for New Jersey’s taxpayers and businesses with reforms to grow the state’s economy, create jobs, and expand opportunity for families.  Governor Christie has balanced four budgets without raising taxes, vetoed legislative Democrats’ attempts to raise taxes on small businesses, secured $2.35 billion in targeted, job-creating business tax cuts, put a 2 percent cap on property taxes, implemented the New Jersey Partnership for Action, cut regulatory red tape, enacted the GrowNJ program to expand job-creating business incentives, and expanded the Urban Transit Tax Hub program to increase investment in urban areas, such as the Teachers Village project in Newark.

New Jersey has added over 143,000 private sector jobs under Governor Christie, the best private sector job growth in a decade.

“Governor Christie has kept his promise to remain committed to improving our state’s economic climate throughout the past three and a half years. By cutting taxes and red tape, getting our state budget under control without raising taxes, and fighting for real, effective tax relief, this Governor has created an environment in New Jersey that gives small businesses a chance to thrive,” said Buddy Valastro. “I am honored to stand with the Governor in his campaign by serving as Chairman of the Small Business for Christie coalition and to signal the support of small business owners across New Jersey for this Governor.”
