Well, c'mon!
No one is really suggesting that Greenland should be our 51st state. And surely, the residents of Qaquotoq, Greenland (pictured above, during our visit today) would not be amused at that prospect.
But that are chuckling at President Trump's speculation that the US might want to purchase Greenland, something that he reportedly called basically "a major real estate deal." In fact, Greenland is a territory of Denmark and Denmark has no intention of selling it -- even though Denmark subsidizes it to the tune of an estimated $165 million a year.
Nonetheless, Greenland is vital to our national security interests and it is rich in minerals and other natural resources.
But, enough of that. For now, Greenlanders would like you to consider visiting this exquisite, somewhat gritty, enchanting, untamed territory near the Arctic Circle -- especially during the warmer and sunnier months from May through September. Even when the temperature is lower, if the sun's rays are more direct here so it feels warmer.
We had a beautiful time today walking through this little fishing village and soaking up the warmth of the sun, the bluest of skies, the colorful houses and the crystal clear water. And we only needed light outer jackets.
This has surely been a highlight of our unforgettable North Atlantic ocean voyage!
