We have a democracy.
We let the people decide.
This is the way it works. We cannot have a free and open discussion -- a healthy discussion -- if we cry "hate" every time someone disagrees with us.
We cannot call our opponents "bigots" every time they express their views or take action to advance their cause. Not everyone who holds a different view is ignorant. It doesn't work that way.
The situation that we're facing was caused in large part by rampant political correctness and increasing numbers of what appear to be thought police on the left (a VERY dangerous trend) and a GOP Congress that went lame on the right. The result (which we are now witnessing) was all but inevitable and has been brewing for some time.
The anger that people are expressing is entirely understandable but, even if you don’t understand it, you ignore it or (worse yet) you try to suppress it or attempt to halt it at your own peril. So, now, let a million voices be heard.
Let the people speak -- especially those who've felt left out and who haven't spoken up for a long time -- but, in any event, ALL the people.
And, please - let democracy take its course. We've had enough faux hysteria.
This is a noisy, messy system but it's the only one we've got and it's served us quite well, thank you. Avanti!
