“Disabled veterans have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, and we need to do more to thank them for their service,” Senator Corrado said. “These heroes have earned our gratitude.”
The resolution, SR-151, urges Congress to support the “Disabled Veterans Commissary and Exchange Store Benefits Act.” The legislation extends military commissary and exchange store benefits to veterans with compensable service-connected disabilities and their dependents.
The federal government operates commissaries and exchange stores around the world to cater to United States Military Personnel and their families. According to the Defense Commissary Agency, shoppers can save thousands of dollars a year compared to shopping at commercial stores. The benefit is currently extended to military retirees and their families.
The legislation would also provide online shopping access to veterans who received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.
“Expanding this benefit will help so many veterans save a lot of money,” Senator Corrado said. “With the holidays right around the corner, every bit of savings matters. I hope Congress acts swiftly to provide our heroes with the help they deserve.”
