The Liacouras Center, on the campus of Temple University, was recently named the second highest grossing university venue in the United States in the 5,001-10,000 capacity for 2012 by Venues Today. The 10,000 seat venue grossed over $3 million dollars and welcomed 64,941 guests to 16 shows. These figures do not include the attendance and revenue from Temple Men’s and Women’s Basketball and some family shows.
In addition to hosting a diverse event mix ranging from concerts, comedy shows, tour rehearsals and sporting events such as boxing, The Liacouras Center is the home facility for Temple Men’s and Women’s Basketball. The venue welcomed old and new friends to the building in 2012. Tyler Perry returned with “Madea Gets a Job,” which welcomed close to 25,000 people and earned the building a #1 ranking in “Hot Tickets” for the May-June time period.
“I’m excited about the continued success of The Liacouras Center and the diverse mix of events that are made available to the Temple community and the region as a whole," said Richard Rumor, Temple University Associate Vice President.
Popular EDM artist Bassnectar brought his “Bass Center V: VaVa Voom Tour” to the building attracting over 6,000 people. The King’s Men Tour featuring Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Donnie McClurkin and Israel Houghton allowed the flexible arena to transform into a church service welcoming over 6,500 guests. Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean and a host of others also paid visits to the arena located in the heart of the city on North Broad Street.
“We’re fortunate to have a great relationship with Temple Athletics and the University that allows us to showcase this great venue in a different light and welcome a diverse crowd to campus that wouldn’t typically come to Temple," said Fran Rodowicz, General Manager of The Liacouras Center. “From acts like Joe Bonamassa to Kirk Franklin, we’re working relentlessly to bring more events to Temple University.”
Joining a familiar group, seven Global Spectrum managed buildings adorned the list of top grossing college facilities. The Colonial Life Arena on the campus of the University of South Carolina ranked fifth in the 15,000 or more capacity welcoming 220,629 guests to 43 shows. The Chaifetz Arena on the campus of Saint Louis University finished third in the 10,001-15,000 capacity attracting 156,233 visitors.
Not alone in the 5,001-10,000 category, The Liacouras joined the Constant Convocation Center on the campus of Old Dominion University who ranked fourth and the UCF Arena on the campus of the University of South Florida who ranked fifth. The Kovalchick Complex Arena on the campus of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania rounded out the list by ranking fourth in the 2,001-5,000 category.
