Something called the Sustainable Cities Collective has released a list of America's ten most walkable cities.
Some of the names on the list are eminently predictable. But some are surprises.
We love city walking because it's so entertaining. The window-shopping and the people-watching are always great. Block after block flies by and before we know it we've walked a mile or more.
If you live in one of these cities, you also know that walkability also makes everything a lot more convenient for you. Yes, you probably pay a bit more for goods and merchandise (and a lot more for housing) but you save plenty by not using a car. And you save lots of time (and aggravation) by not sitting in traffic.
Anyway, here are America's Ten Most Walkable Cities:
1. New York
2. San Francisco (but, ohhhh -- those hills!)
3. Boston
4. Chicago
5. PHILADELPHIA
6. Seattle
7. Washington DC
8. Miami
9. Minneapolis
10. Oakland
