Historic Church Gets New Bell Tower, Celebration

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will be the principal celebrant and homilist at a Mass celebrating the 185th Anniversary Jubilee of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Philadelphia’s Manayunk neighborhood.

Priests and religious men and women formerly stationed at Saint John the Baptist, Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Josaphat Parishes have been invited to join with the community for this celebration of its rich history.

Sunday, April 24, 2016
11:00 a.m. (Mass)
Saint John the Baptist Parish
146 Rector Street
Philadelphia, PA 19127

Immediately following Mass, the Archbishop will bless and rededicate the newly renovated church tower and bells.  Over the past year, the parish exceeded its goal in a $1,000,000 fundraising campaign to make necessary repairs to the tower.  A chance drawing will be held to determine who will ring the church bells via remote control.

Following Mass and the blessing, a neighborhood block party will be held including live music by a seven piece jazz band, the Polish American String Band and a performance by the Mummers.
