We ventured into center city Philadelphia last night for the every-Wednesday summer promotion known as Center City Sips and we had a great time.
We started at The Corner, a trendy watering hole nestled into a cozy corner on 13th St. near Chestnut in the burgeoning Midtown Village. The Corner attracts a slew of young professionals and we perched ourselves on The Corner's rooftop deck -- a great place for people-watching and enjoying the skyline on a gorgeous late spring evening.
Then we hopped over to 12th St. for a peek at the new Pennsylvania 6 bar and restaurant in the space that started out as London many years ago. Pennsylvania 6 is completely updated with a sleek interior that features industrial touches and subway tiles. The place was teeming.
Then we decided it was actually time to eat (we'd been enjoying only liquid nourishment up to this time) so we headed over to 11th and dropped into Strangelove's, our favorite new brewery/eatery. The people at Strangelove's are super friendly and the selection of craft beers is impressive with plenty of specials most every night. But on top of that, the menu is delightful -- both hearty fare and lighter dishes to please every taste. Inside, Strangelove's boasts a long, inviting bar crowned by factory lights and a blackboard that spells out the day's brew selections. We opted for a Summer Love light ale and a grilled ham and cheese sandwich (with bacon!) and a side of the best homemade cole slaw you could possibly imagine. The seared chicken salad is also outstanding and the shrimp po boy is as zesty as a New Orleans evening with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
After Strangelove's, we wound up the evening at one of our favorite stops, Capogiro at 13th and Sansom -- the home of the very best gelato in the whole wide world.
What a perfect night!
