New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has decided to call a special election this year to replace deceased Senator Frank Lautenberg.
Christie says the election of a new Senator as soon as possible through a primary and special election is "not negotaible."
Primary: Tuesday August 13.
General election: Wednesday October 16.
NO interim replacement is being appointed by Christie just now. But he will appoint someone to fill the seat until October 16.
"I want to have an elected Senator as soon as possible," Christie says.
The Governor has opted to let the people decide as soon as possible. The state will be responsible for all of the costs of the election, Christie says.
