Singers Needed For New Show: Here's How To Audition

SHOW INFORMATION

Merry Christmas, Frank Sinatra is a musical celebration of Frank Sinatra in honor of his birthday (on Dec. 12; he would have been 98 this year). On Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, the best of New Jersey's finest saloon singers, crooners and chanteuse selected specifically for this show, will take the stage of the historic Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ, backed by the 18-piece Red Bank Jazz Orchestra under the musical direction of Joe Muccioli (who Jazzwise Magazine says works with, "A maximum of authenticity").

Merry Christmas, Frank Sinatra is not a costume and wig show. It's a sincere, respectful tribute in song to one of New Jersey's most famous sons. This show is a continuation and a reimagining of an annual event that has been produced at the theatre over the past seven years known as "The Sinatra Birthday Bash."

AUDITION INFORMATION

A cast of featured vocalists is selected for the show (vocalists will be backed by a choir and professional orchestra for the performance). Males, females, small vocal ensembles and talented performers of all ages are encouraged to apply. We're less interested in Sinatra imitators, and more interested in finding singers who can sing in the Sinatra style, and interpret the great songs of the American Songbook, the tunes associated with Sinatra, in their own personal way. Each featured vocalist will perform two songs (one on each set) with the band and choir, and participate in the opening number and the finale. Performers will be coached and produced by the music director and must attend rehearsals as needed; a whole cast staging rehearsal with piano accompaniment on a date TBA; the dress rehearsal on Friday, Dec. 6 and the show on the same date (Dec. 6) at 8PM.

Featured vocalists will receive an honorarium of $200 per singer or ensemble. Audition is by CD (not in person). Please send a resume, head shot, and audio CD containing recordings of two songs (we recommend one Standard and one Holiday song) of your work in the Sinatra style to:

Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701 - Attention: Joe Muccioli

Submission deadline is August 1, 2013. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number and email address. If you have additional questions please contact Ann Marie Keenan at 732-224-8778 x105 or akeenan@countbasietheatre.org.

AUDITION TIPS

Please send a CD - do not direct us to a web site or send a tape. If you burn your own CD, make sure it also plays in a standard CD player. We listen to all submissions, but a good quality recording represents your best efforts. Singers selected for the show will perform with and orchestra and choir; a cappella recordings (solo voice without instruments) are not encouraged as audition material. Due to the large volume of submissions, materials will not be returned.

The Sinatra Birthday Bash is a gala event co-produced by Count Basie Theatre and Jazz Arts Project, Inc., Inc., both nonprofit organizations. Visit them on the web at countbasietheatre.org and jazzartsproject.org.
