The award for Best Book of a Musical went to Matilda.
Now, a true Broadway legend -- 21 time Tony winner Hal Prince. He looks remarkably well. He's here to honor Phantom of the Opera which has played to over 150 million people in 65,000 performances all over the world. Phantom has 28 instruments in the pit - the largest orchestra on Broadway. This show is the longest running musical ever. It continues to captivate audiences everywhere.
Now, Sally Field and two-time Tony winner Matthew Broderick.
They look nice together.
Now, Best Actor in a Musical. The award goes to Billy Porter for Kinky Boots. It's his first nomination and his first Tony Award. This is another one that we predicted. He thanks his mother for her unconditional love and he thanks so many others. He's reading his remarks but it's all so heartfelt -- so emotional. Billy is electrifying!
The award for Best Actor in a Play goes to Tracy Letts for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? We didn't see this coming, though his performance really was extraordinary.
Now, we move on to those Broadway luminaries who died this year: Jean Stapelton, Hal David, Nora Ephron, Bonnie Franklin, Jack Klugman, Mil O'Shea, Andy Griffith, Gore Vidal, Larry L. King, Celeste Holm, Marvin Hamlisch and so many others. Farewell!
