Message From The President Of Villanova University

Dear Members of the Villanova Community,

I am writing to share some significant University news. 

Villanova University and Rosemont College have come to an agreement to merge our two neighboring Catholic institutions, beginning in 2027. It will be a multi-year, phased transition intended to provide current Rosemont students with the opportunity to continue their education and graduate with a Rosemont College degree. During this time, Rosemont College will continue to operate as a separate entity. 

Villanova University and Rosemont College enjoy a longstanding connection. Over the years, Villanova and Rosemont students have taken classes and participated in programs at our respective campuses, and many families in the Greater Philadelphia region celebrate alumni from both institutions. But most importantly, our two institutions have always shared a commitment to advancing Catholic higher education. Given this shared commitment, our close physical proximity and deep alumni connections, this merger represents a unique and powerful opportunity for our two institutions.

During the transition, Rosemont College's educational and many extracurricular activities will continue as planned—supported by Rosemont faculty and staff. After the transition, the campus will honor the legacy of its founders, the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, and the institution’s history and mission by retaining the Rosemont name as it continues to support Catholic higher education. 

This agreement, together with the recent acquisition of Cabrini University, represents long-term strategic planning for Villanova. The demand for a Villanova education has never been greater. With this agreement, we seek to enhance our University programs and complement the goals we developed together in our Strategic Plan, Rooted. Restless., all while honoring and preserving the legacy of Rosemont College. As always, our number one priority is providing students with a unique and transformative education—interwoven with values, knowledge and community—and unparalleled preparation for lifelong success.

I know this announcement raises many questions, many of which simply cannot be answered at this time. There is still much to be done, but we are energized to work together with our Rosemont colleagues given the longstanding bonds between our communities and the opportunities the agreement will provide. Additional information about the agreement is available on our website. As more details become available and finalized, I will continue to keep you informed about our progress.

NJ State Senators Blast Energy Cost Hikes!

New Jersey state Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) and Senate Republican Whip Michael Testa (R-1) blasted the one-sided legislative hearing on surging utility costs. Both senators were appointed to the legislative committee following the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ (NJBPU) announcement that rates would climb up to 20% starting in June.

Sen. Bucco: “I think what we learned today is that despite the warnings from various industry experts, PJM, and the rate counsel, this failed energy policy from the administration and the Democrat controlled Legislature is causing rates to go up and our residents are going to feel it. You heard the rate counsel say that if these energy prices go so high that people will have to start making decisions that could seriously impact their health. That’s not where New Jersey needs to be, not when these warnings have been given over the last five years, not just by Republicans but by folks who deal with these industries every day.”

Sen. Testa: “So many of us saw what’s happening today from a mile away. We called the Energy Master Plan the Energy ‘Disaster’ Plan, we knew that going all in on offshore wind was a really bad idea, but instead we went with really bad expensive, intermittent forms of energy that are going to be placed on the backs of the taxpayers and the ratepayers of New Jersey. Make no mistake, Governor Murphy and all the members of his cabinet promised every single New Jerseyan that they would make New Jersey the California of the East Coast; well folks the chickens have come home to roost.”

Catholic High School In Both Hoops Champ Games

 The Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Teams will contend for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State Championship. 

The Neumann Goretti Boys’ Team will contend for the PIAA 5A Championship Game when they play Hershey High School from Hershey (Dauphin County) on Friday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey (Dauphin County). 

The Neumann Goretti Girls’ Team will contend for the PIAA 4A Championship when they play Lansdale Catholic High School from Lansdale (Montgomery County) on Saturday, March 29 at 12:00 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey (Dauphin County).

The Neumann Goretti community will gather in the gymnasium for a local Pep Rally to celebrate the teams in advance of their games in Hershey. The school’s cheerleaders will welcome the athletes as their names are announced.

The Neumann Goretti Boys’ Basketball Team has an overall record of 18-11 this year. Neumann Goretti’s Boys’ program is making its 11^th appearance in the state finals. They have won nine state titles, which they last won in 2022. On March 21, the Saints defeated Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove (Montgomery County) in the 5A Semifinals. On February 27, the team defeated Roxborough High School to capture the District XII 5A Championship.

The Neumann Goretti Girls’ Basketball Team has an overall record of 25-4 this year. In February, the Saints claimed the 2025 Philadelphia Catholic League Championship with a win over Archbishop John Carroll High School at the Palestra. On March 22, the Saints defeated the Universal Audenried Charter High School in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia in the 5A Semifinals. The team seeks its sixth PIAA title in program history and advances to the finals for the first time since 2022. They are 5-0 all time in PIAA State Championship Games.

Big Trump Get: MS-13 Gang Leader Captured!

Early this morning, the Trump Administration directed the successful apprehension of a key leader of the brutal MS-13 gang in Virginia — an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who was one of the top three MS-13 leaders in the United States. Thanks to a coordinated effort by federal law enforcement and state and local law enforcement in Virginia, this gang leader is no longer terrorizing our streets.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Attorney General Pam Bondi: “America is safer today because one of the top domestic terrorists in MS-13, he is off the streets. This has been an ongoing directive of President Trump. His directive to me when I became Attorney General of the United States was very simple: keep America safe.”

Putting America First: The Trump Auto Tariffs

Today, President Donald J. Trump signed a proclamation invoking Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to impose a 25% tariff on imports of automobiles and certain automobile parts, addressing a critical threat to U.S. national security.

• President Trump is taking action to protect America’s automobile industry, which is vital to national security and has been undermined by excessive imports threatening America's domestic industrial base and supply chains.
• The 25% tariff will be applied to imported passenger vehicles (sedans, SUVs, crossovers, minivans, cargo vans) and light trucks, as well as key automobile parts (engines, transmissions, powertrain parts, and electrical components), with processes to expand tariffs on additional parts if necessary.
• Importers of automobiles under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement will be given the opportunity to certify their U.S. content and systems will be implemented such that the 25% tariff will only apply to the value of their non-U.S. content.
  • USMCA-compliant automobile parts will remain tariff-free until the Secretary of Commerce, in consultation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), establishes a process to apply tariffs to their non-U.S. content.
• The President is exercising his authority under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to adjust imports to protect our national security.
  • This statute provides the President with authority to adjust imports being brought into the United States in quantities or under circumstances that threaten to impair national security.

 
MAINTAINING A RESILIENT DOMESTIC INDUSTRIAL BASE: President Trump is taking action to end unfair trade practices that jeopardize U.S. national security.

• The COVID-19 pandemic exposed critical vulnerabilities and choke points in global supply chains, undermining our ability to maintain a resilient domestic industrial base.
• Legislation, pre-existing trade agreements like the USMCA, revisions to the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement, and subsequent negotiations have not sufficiently mitigated the threat to national security posed by imports of automobiles and certain automobile parts.
• These new tariffs aim to ensure the U.S. can sustain its domestic industrial base and meet national security needs. 

 
STRENGTHENING AMERICA’S MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY: President Trump’s decision to implement tariffs on imports of automobiles and automobile parts will protect and strengthen the U.S. automotive sector.

• Foreign automobile industries, bolstered by unfair subsidies and aggressive industrial policies, have expanded, while U.S. production has stagnated.
• In 1985, American-owned facilities in the United States manufactured 11.0 million automobiles, representing 97% of overall domestic (American- and foreign-owned) production of automobiles.
• In 2024, Americans bought approximately 16 million cars, SUVs, and light trucks, and 50% of these vehicles were imports (8 million).
  • Of the other 8 million vehicles assembled in America and not imported, the average domestic content is conservatively estimated at only 50% and is likely closer to 40%.
  • Therefore, of the 16 million cars bought by Americans, only 25% of the vehicle content can be categorized as Made in America.
• The United States trade deficit in automobile parts reached $93.5 billion in 2024.
• Currently, the U.S. automobile and automobile parts industry (American-owned and foreign-owned firms) employs approximately one million U.S. workers.
• Employment in automotive parts manufacturing totaled approximately 553,300 jobs in 2024, a decline of 286,000 jobs or 34% since 2000.
• In 2023, Research and Development (R&D) by American-owned automobile manufacturers amounted to only 16% of global R&D spending. R&D by American-owned firms lagged behind the EU, which controlled 53% of global R&D.

 
TARIFFS WORK: Studies have repeatedly shown that tariffs can be an effective tool for reducing or eliminating threats to impair U.S. national security and achieving economic and strategic objectives.

• A 2024 study on the effects of President Trump’s tariffs in his first term found that they “strengthened the U.S. economy” and “led to significant reshoring” in industries like manufacturing and steel production.
• A 2023 report by the U.S. International Trade Commission that analyzed the effects of Section 232 and 301 tariffs on more than $300 billion of U.S. imports found that the tariffs reduced imports from China and effectively stimulated more U.S. production of the tariffed goods, with very minor effects on prices.
• According to the Economic Policy Institute, the tariffs implemented by President Trump during his first term “clearly show[ed] no correlation with inflation” and only had a temporary effect on overall price levels.
• An analysis from the Atlantic Council found that “tariffs would create new incentives for US consumers to buy US-made products.”
• Former Biden Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen affirmed last year that tariffs do not raise prices: “I don’t believe that American consumers will see any meaningful increase in the prices that they face.”
• A 2024 economic analysis found that a global tariff of 10% would grow the economy by $728 billion, create 2.8 million jobs, and increase real household incomes by 5.7%.

Black Sea Talks: US, Ukraine Reach Accord

In line with presidential-level discussions between President Donald J. Trump and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the United States facilitated bilateral technical-level talks with the Ukrainian delegation March 23-25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Following those discussions:

• The United States and Ukraine have agreed to ensure safe navigation, eliminate the use of force, and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea.
• The United States and Ukraine agreed that the United States remains committed to helping achieve the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of civilian detainees, and the return of forcibly transferred Ukrainian children.
• The United States and Ukraine agreed to develop measures for implementing President Trump’s and President Zelenskyy’s agreement to ban strikes against energy facilities of Russia and Ukraine.
• The United States and Ukraine welcome the good offices of third countries with a view toward supporting the implementation of the energy and maritime agreements.

To that end, the United States will continue facilitating negotiations between both sides to achieve a peaceful resolution, in line with the agreements made in Riyadh.

Vance To Visit Key Base In Greenland

On Friday, Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance will travel to the Pituffik Space Base in Greenland to receive a briefing on Arctic security issues and meet with U.S. servicemembers. Pituffik Space Base is the Department of Defense’s northernmost installation. The Base, which is operated by the United States Space Force’s 821st Space Base Group, supports missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance missions. 

The strategic partnership between the United States and Greenland has long played a vital role in our national and economic security. During World War Two, the United States established over a dozen military bases in Greenland to defend the North Atlantic from Nazi incursion. During the Cold War, the United States committed additional resources to Greenland to defend against Soviet missile attacks. In the decades since, neglect and inaction from Danish leaders and past U.S. administrations have presented our adversaries with the opportunity to advance their own priorities in Greenland and the Arctic. President Trump is rightly changing course. 

The Vice President and Second Lady’s visit to Pituffik Space Base will take place in lieu of the Second Lady’s previously announced visit to the Avannaata Qimussersu dogsled race in Sisimiut.

Cuomo Is Clear Favorite To Be Next NYC Mayor

New York Mayor Eric Adams lags behind other Democratic challengers in a recent New York City mayoral race poll, while former Gov. Andrew Cuomo remains the frontrunner.

Cuomo leads a Honan Strategy Group poll with 41 percent of Democratic primary votes, followed by Zohran Mamdani with 18 percent, Brad Lander with 8 percent, while Mayor Adams garnered 6 percent.

Scott Stringer and Adrienne Adams each got 4 percent, according to the poll.

Pollsters surveyed 909 city Democratic voters between March 18-20.

Commemorating A Truly Great Moment In History!

Our Nation proudly commemorates the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry's address to the Second Virginia Convention -- a seminal moment in our great American story and a fateful turning point in America's epic struggle for Independence.      On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry rose to the pulpit of St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia, to speak those immortal words that remain etched upon every American heart:  "Give me Liberty, or give me death!"      In the wake of escalating tensions between the Patriots and the Redcoats, Henry delivered this stirring address before more than 100 delegates, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and many of the statesmen who would go on to sign the Declaration of Independence.  Following the bloody Boston Massacre and the British Parliament's authoritarian imposition of the Intolerable Acts -- which closed the Boston Harbor and stripped New England Colonists of their right to self-govern -- American leaders deliberated whether to continue their pursuit of peace, or as a final recourse, to take up arms in the rebellion.      With British tyranny on the rise and American confidence in retreat, the Second Virginia Convention assembled.  Patrick Henry, a respected lawyer who had recently served as a delegate to the Continental Congress, arrived at the Convention with one goal in mind:  to galvanize militiamen into securing "our inestimable rights and liberties, from those further violations with which they are threatened." Some members cautioned against such decisive action, insisting that peaceful reconciliation was still possible, but as Henry listened, he grew more impatient.  A Baptist minister who observed the proceedings later recalled that he had "an unearthly fire burning in his eye."  Overcome with righteous indignation, Henry rose from his seat with no notes in hand, boldly beseeching his fellow Virginians:  "If we wish to be free... we must fight!"      At a moment when America's fate hung in the balance, Henry's words sparked daring action in the souls of patriots, fortified the cause of freedom, and set America on the path to ultimate triumph over forces of tyranny and oppression.  By a narrow margin, the Second Virginia Convention passed the resolution to form a militia -- the first critical step to Independence. "It is not now easy to say what we should have done without Patrick Henry," Thomas Jefferson later wrote. "He was before us all in maintaining the spirit of the Revolution."      As we approach the 250th anniversary of our Nation's Independence on July 4, 2026, we look to Patrick Henry, a son of the frontier, the first and sixth Governor of Virginia, an unflinching advocate for American Independence, and a true man of his moment.  Today, we invoke his courage, we honor his legacy, and we fearlessly summon the spirit of 1776 to build a future that we will be proud to impart on our children.  Like Patrick Henry and the giants of American liberty who came before us, now is our time to ring that great bell of American freedom and to propel our Nation into a new and radiant golden age.      NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J.
