Sherrill Signs Horrendous Pro Abortion Bill

New Jersey Right to Life (NJRTL) strongly condemns Governor Mikie Sherrill’s decision to sign S2260 into law. This legislation grants sweeping legal immunity to abortion providers and erects new barriers against accountability for activities the state now broadly labels “reproductive health care,” shielding them from certain investigations, legal actions, and records requests originating outside New Jersey.

“Governor Sherrill just signed a blank check for the abortion industry and a death warrant for countless unborn children with beating hearts, and she did it despite thousands of emails from New Jersey residents urging her to veto this bill,” said NJRTL Executive Director Marie Tasy. “S2260 does not protect women. It protects the people who end the lives of living human children already growing in the womb. New Jersey should be a sanctuary for mothers and babies, not a legal fortress for those who profit from abortion.”

S2260 extends protections to a wide array of procedures, treatments, medications, and services classified under state law as “reproductive health care.” It restricts out-of-state investigations, legal proceedings, and demands for records connected to those activities, insulating abortion providers from external scrutiny.

The bill also creates a new crime of “interference with reproductive health care services.” “Because terms such as “threat,” “intimidate,” and “coerce” are inherently subjective and rest on individual feelings, this language poses a serious danger to free speech,” said Tasy. “Peaceful sidewalk counseling, prayer, holding signs, or simply offering help and alternatives outside a facility can easily be labeled “intimidation” by someone who claims to feel threatened, leaving pro-life advocates open to criminal charges that are difficult to disprove and chilling constitutionally protected expression.”

“The use of the term ‘reproductive’ to describe abortion defies the very meaning of reproduction. Reproduction has already taken place once a child is conceived. Abortion does not advance reproduction; it ends the life of a living human child whose heart is already beating. Calling a procedure whose intended outcome is the death of that child “health care” is a perverse distortion of both language and reality.”

“This law is a deliberate act of defiance against the most basic human right — the right to life of every child in the womb with a beating heart,” Tasy said. “Governor Sherrill and her allies have chosen to put the full power of state government behind abortion while building walls to keep accountability out and they are now creating vague new criminal penalties that can be used to silence those who object to these radical policies. That is not compassion. That is blatant extremism. Women deserve meaningful support and genuine alternatives, not a state government focused on expanding protections for abortion.”

“No mother should ever be told that the only solution to her crisis is the death of her child; a living human being with a beating heart,” Tasy concluded. “We will not stand by while New Jersey turns abortion into a protected industry and criminalizes those who oppose it. We will fight for the day when every woman facing an unexpected pregnancy is met with practical support, genuine alternatives, and the unshakable truth that both her life and her child’s life are worth defending.”

Visionary Black Conservative Leader Dead At 89

The Woodson Center is saddened to announce the passing of its Founder and President, Robert L. Woodson, Sr., who died peacefully in his sleep on May 19, 2026 at the age of 89. The center issued the following statement in response:

For more than six decades, his life’s work rested on a single, unwavering conviction: that the people closest to a problem are best positioned to solve it. Columbus, Ohio faces a joint lawsuit filed to restore the Christopher Columbus statue removed in 2020 by Mayor Andrew Ginther during civil unrest. Italian American organizations have filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Columbus, seeking the reinstallation of the Christopher Columbus statue removed from City Hall grounds in 2020 and placed in storage, all without a public or City Council vote. JOIN THE FIGHT: SUPPORT THE LAWSUIT HERE The 28-page suit was filed by attorney George Bochetto on behalf of several plaintiffs, including the Friends of Christopher Columbus Foundation (FOCCF) — a Columbus, Ohio-based nonprofit — and the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian American Organizations (COPOMIAO), a nationwide Italian American advocacy coalition. The lawsuit argues the statue’s removal was unlawful, discriminatory and in breach of binding agreements — all carried out without proper authority, due process or required historic protections.

Cast by renowned Italian sculptor Edoardo Alfieri in Genoa, Italy, the 20-foot bronze statue was unveiled in 1955 in Columbus, Ohio, before 100,000 people. The statue was uprooted from City Hall in 2020 by Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther amid civil unrest and placed into storage.

“Six years ago, in a rushed and inconsistent response to unrest, city leaders removed the Columbus statue but not the name of the city itself,” said COPOMIAO President Basil Russo. “Columbus Day emerged in the aftermath of the 1891 New Orleans lynching, when 11 Italian immigrants were killed by a mob of thousands, an event that prompted a national effort to promote the acceptance of Italian Americans. In The USA: A War On Christian Churches!

As we prayed our annual CV novena to St. Michael the Archangel over the weekend, we received a stark reminder of why we pray, why we fast, and why both need to be a regular part of life. To borrow some words from St. Paul, we must do so, “without ceasing.”   Yesterday, just one month after the lethal shooting at Annunciation Church in Minnesota, people of faith were once more attacked in their house of worship.   This time the target was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan.   At least four are dead and eight wounded as the result of a man ramming the church with a truck, opening fire, and then setting the church ablaze.   These are not isolated incidents.   In 2025 alone, Catholic churches have been targeted 47 times. Since 2020, there have been 528 documented acts of hostility against Catholic churches in the U.S. alone. And churches and houses of worship of other faiths have faced similar acts of violence and desecration. Each incident is not only an assault on individuals but on the freedom to worship God in peace.

We can’t agree more with President Trump, who yesterday posted in his familiar upper-case, “THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!” But his cannot be the only voice.   Last week, our team met with officials from a task force of the Department of Justice to raise the alarm about the rising tide of anti-Christian violence and institutional bias. The DOJ expressed concern and indicated that the Administration is exploring federal resources to help protect schools and houses of worship that feel under threat. If done with religious freedom protections, this could be a positive step.    Another is a call for media of all sides, community leaders, concerned citizens, and elected officials at every level of government to stand up and say no to this violence.    Whatever a perpetrator’s motive, whatever his or her political affiliation, ethnic background, self-proclaimed identity, or mental health status, resorting to violence cannot be tolerated. And we must send a message as a nation that it will not be.   But for us as Catholics, response begins where it always has—with prayer.   Our devotion to St. Michael the Archangel is not just reserved for moments of crisis. It is our daily spiritual armor. We pray for protection, but also for the grace to stand firm in worship, in witness, and in unwavering hope.   May St. Michael defend the Church—and our nation—in this hour of trial.   Go forward bravely,

America 250: A Message From The President

On this day 250 years ago, a mighty assembly of statesmen, thinkers, lawyers, and patriots gathered at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to formally convene a revolutionary body to guide America to its independence. On May 10, 1775, our Nation’s forefathers convened the Second Continental Congress—a historic body that would go on to adopt the Declaration of Independence, the grandest and most important political document ever put to pen.

Following the famous “shot heard ‘round the world” at the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775—the first major armed hostilities of the Revolutionary War, in which the British Army attempted to seize American military supplies and arrest American leaders—it became clear to the patriots that their conflict with the British Crown had escalated beyond mere disagreement.  Despite the colonists’ tireless efforts on behalf of peace, war was all but certain.  In the wake of the Boston Massacre, the imposition of the Intolerable Acts, and the lasting injustice of taxation without representation, Americans had formed the First Continental Congress in the fall of 1774 to seek redress for their grievances.  By the spring of 1775, following the lives taken at Lexington and Concord, a new Congress was convened—and America’s righteous crusade for independence was formally underway.
 
Comprised of true American titans like John and Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Roger Sherman, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, James Madison, John Jay, and George Washington—whom Congress later appointed as the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army—the Second Continental Congress was made up of some of the boldest, fiercest, and most visionary men ever to walk the face of the Earth.  This remarkable body would go on to preside over the Revolutionary War, establish critical international alliances, and maintain unity among the 13 Colonies as America secured its independence and ultimately emerged as a new Nation.
 
The Second Continental Congress set in motion our independence, our venerated political traditions, and the birth of the greatest Republic ever created.  As we commemorate 250 years since its first convening, we recommit to the ideals of our Nation’s founding.  We summon the courage of our Founding Fathers.  Above all, as we approach 250 years of glorious independence, we proudly invoke the spirit of 1776 to build a proud, hopeful, and radiant future.

NJ Lawmaker Fights For Parental Rights

Today, during the New Jersey State Senate session, Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) introduced a hostile amendment on the Senate floor to strengthen S-3156 and protect parental rights.

Why are we expanding the scope of education with this bill?

The issue is not if we support these centers but where they are being placed.

Our educational efforts and money should be directed at our children’s lost years of learning because of Covid and our States response to it. At a time when many of our children cannot read and write at grade level, why we are diverting our attention away from education.

A recent Harvard study showed that New Jersey math scores were lower in 2023 than in 2019. Our answer – “start a new program.”

At a time when State aid to school districts is being cut, forcing some districts to raise taxes up to 10% to make up the difference, the answer is “start a new program.”

We know the game plan. First allow federally qualified health care centers. Then seek and expand their funding.

By the way, the irony does not escape me when Gov. Chris Christie wanted to expand and fund these centers the majority party fought him because they wanted money and efforts directed at Planned Parenthood so as to allow unfettered taxpayer abortions.

The irony does not escape me that as this bill seeks to expand student choices on Health Care, this body has consistently fought against those same students being given a choice to leave their failing school systems.

Most importantly, I fear that this bill continues the State’s march toward the substitution of parental rights with state-imposed jurisdiction and indoctrination over our children. 

Parents have an absolute right to determine what is or isn’t in their child’s best interest. That right must be guaranteed. The amendment I propose would require parental consent for and medical consultation or service directed at a child at school.
