A New Low, Even For This Deceitful Woman

RNC response to Hillary Clinton’s outrageous rhetoric comparing political opponents to terrorists:
"For Hillary Clinton to equate her political opponents to terrorists is a new low for her flailing campaign. She should apologize immediately for her inflammatory rhetoric."

- RNC National Press Secretary, Allison Moore

HILLARY CLINTON: “Now, extreme views about women, we expect that from some of the terrorist groups, we expect that from people that don’t want to live in the modern world, but it’s a little hard to take coming from republicans who want to be the President of the United States.  Yet they espouse out of date and out of touch policies. They are dead wrong for 21st century America. We are going forward, we are not going back.”

Priebus, RNC: Honor Tradition Of Hard Work

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day released the following Labor Day statement:

“On Labor Day we celebrate the American worker, and we honor the tradition of hard work that built this nation,” said Chairman Priebus. “America’s economic leadership in the world is a testament to our workforce—in the fields, factories, offices, schools, and stores all across the country.

“But today we’re also thinking about the millions who want to work but can’t find a job—and those who want to be employed full time but can only secure part time work. Sadly, the job-killing policies of an overgrown federal government have made it harder for these Americans.

“Republicans believe in unlimited opportunity for everyone. That begins with a quality education, and it means being able to find a good job. On Labor Day and every day, that’s what we’re fighting for.”

“We wish everyone a Happy Labor Day,” said Co-Chairman Day. “Labor Day is about paying tribute to what makes our nation great—the determination, innovation and ingenuity of hardworking Americans. Let’s honor them today and dedicate ourselves to expanding job opportunities for all Americans.”

RNC Chair Steele: 'An Attack On The American Ideal'

Michael Steele, Chair of the Republican National Committee has issued the following statement:

"I am deeply shocked and horrified by the attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her staff, and her constituents.
"Today’s senseless act of violence is an attack on the American ideal and goes against our country's deeply held democratic values.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Representative Giffords and the families of all of those who were victims of this national tragedy."

Message From Michael Steele

A special message from Michael Steele, Chair of the Republican National Committee:

No doubt by now you’ve heard the comments made by former President Jimmy Carter and other Democrat leaders injecting charges of racism into important policy debates we are having today. I think the former president, with all due respect, is plain wrong. I have seen racism firsthand, and the current opposition we’re seeing from Republicans, Independents and Democrats alike to the president’s policies is not racism. In fact, baseless accusations like this diminish real incidences of racism.
It is outrageous and troubling the lengths Democrats will go to disparage those who disagree with them. This is not the context in which we should have a debate on health care or any issue facing America. The American people want the Democrats to start working with Republicans on common-sense, incremental health care reform, not resort to tactics such as this that make it harder to solve important challenges facing our nation.
Please join me in taking a stand against this insulting attempt to divide the nation by injecting race into our civil discourse and instead seek ways to unite Americans by forwarding this to your friends and posting it on your profile.

Apology? From Who? When?

From Michael Steele, Chair of the Republican National Committee:
In another stunning example of hypocrisy, congressional Democrats are wasting taxpayers’ time and resources on a legislative measure to censure Congressman Joe Wilson so they don’t have to talk about their exceedingly unpopular health care plan.
Without question, Joe Wilson made a terrible error in judgment and has wasted no time in extending a personal apology to the president. The president has accepted his apology.
If we are going to march Members down to the well of the house to apologize, Joe Wilson is going to have to get in line behind Nancy Pelosi, who attacked the intelligence community who protects us, Charlie Rangel who cheated on his taxes, Jack Murtha – a walking scandal, and we all know how the Democratic leadership tried to protect William Jefferson.
Democrats don’t want an apology.
They want a side show – something to shift the focus away from their government-run experiment on health care.”

Indulgent Obamas Do Broadway

All hail Dear Leader - The less fortunate wait behind police barricades to hail Dear Leader as he and Mrs. Obama head to Broadway in their limo for a "date night." New York Times Photo.

From Politico:
President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama landed in New York Saturday afternoon, and after taking a helicopter from JFK into Manhattan, drove up the West Side Highway, where the northbound lanes were shut down by police for their visit, past Ground Zero, into the Village for dinner at the Village's Blue Hill restaurant. From there, they went north to Times Square, where they went to to see a production of "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" at the Belasco Theater on West 44 Street. Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest read a statement from Obama: "I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished." Asked about the cost of the trip, which Republicans have criticized as indulgent, coming just ahead of the expected announcement of GM's bankruptcy filing on Monday, Josh Earnest told pool reporter Dave Michaels of the Dallas Morning News, that he "didn't anticipate being able to provide a cost estimate tonight." After the play let out at about 11:30 p.m., the presidential motorcade went down Sixth Avenue, shut down by the NYPD, and onlookers packed onto the East side of the street cheered as the presidential motorcade passed as the Obamas headed back to JFK for a return flight to Washington.
The Republican National Committee slammed the outing in an "RNC Research Piece": "As President Obama prepares to wing into Manhattan’s theater district on Air Force One to take in a Broadway show, GM is preparing to file bankruptcy and families across America continue to struggle to pay their bills. ... Have a great Saturday evening – even if you’re not jetting off somewhere at taxpayer expense. ... PUTTING ON A SHOW: Obamas Wing Into The City For An Evening Out While Another Iconic American Company Prepares For Bankruptcy."
The RNC's Gail Gitcho added: "If President Obama wants to go to the theater, isn’t the Presidential box at the Kennedy Center good enough?”

And, from Asher Embry at The American Spectator:
Kim Jong Il’s deployed plutonium, and missles, threats, and lies.
Iran is daily plotting still for Israel’s demise. In Pakistan there’s turmoil and the country could implode. Near Georgia, Russia readies troops and trouble they forebode. At home, our spending’s soaring, and our deficits balloon. Tax revenues are sinking fast, down drastically through June. GM’s declaring bankruptcy, and no one knows who else. So all of us are cutting back and tightening our belts. While “everyday Americans” are struggling every day, So glad Barack could find the time for dinner and Broadway.

Steele: Empathize Your Ass!

From the Associated Press via ABC News:
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has a message for President Obama and his stated goal of replacing Supreme Court Justice David Souter with a judge who brings empathy to the bench: "Empathize right on your behind."
Sitting in for host Bill Bennett on the "Morning in America" radio show Friday, Steele, a lawyer, said Obama should be searching for a judge who understands the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law.
"Crazy nonsense empathetic! I'll give you empathy. Empathize right on your behind. Craziness!" Steele told a radio audience. He appeared on the "Morning in America" radio show, substituting for regular host Bill Bennett.
Speaking to reporters last week to announce Souter's retirement, Obama said he would seek a replacement who combines an impeccable legal background with "empathy and understanding" for how the law is applied.
Well: Think about it. What in hell does "empathy" have to do with the interpretation of the Constitution anyway?

Steele Packs Sunday Punch!

From Ashley Southall at the New York Times:
Michael Steele, the newly appointed chairman of the Republican National Committee, made his first appearance on the Sunday talk shows since becoming the party’s leader, taking on Democrats and defending his own name.
Mr. Steele, who appeared on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” called the Obama administration’s spending “out of balance” as he continued his brass-knuckles opposition to Democrats and their plans for the economy. After Lawrence H. Summers, the top White House economic adviser, suggested earlier on the program that the Republican party was impotent to handle the economy, Mr. Steele called those comments “laughable.”
“He acts like we have spent the last eight years in the mess that we’re currently in,” Mr. Steele said. “This is about 18 months old. The reality of it is, Bush inherited a recession. He got us through that recession.”
“And I didn’t hear anything from Mr. Summers that assured me or reassured me that this administration gets it when it comes to how you create wealth in this nation,” he added.

I find it amusing that the Times refers to Chairman Steel as the "newly appointed" Chair of the RNC.
Mr. Steele wasn't appointed by anyone. He was duly elected by the national committeepersons of the Republican National Committee representing every state and territory.

RNC: Franken's A Fraud

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan issued the following statement last night:
"Al Franken's declarations of victory are as inaccurate as they are premature. This recount has taken some time and we won't know a winner for weeks to come. And, when a winner finally does emerge, we are confident it will be Norm Coleman.
During this process, Minnesotans have shown a great amount of patience and respect; Al Franken and Washington Democrats should follow their lead and do the same."

Big Name Lineup

Over at Politico Jonathan Martin reports that John McCain is taking over the Republican National Committee and bringing in some Big Names to lead the way. McCain's appointments are impressive and I particularly like the sound of the names of the big guns he's bringing in. In fact, anyone who thinks the GOP is just a bunch of waspy old men better pay attention to McCain's lineup. Here's part of Martin's report:
The Republican National Committee tomorrow will announce the appointment of three top John McCain loyalists to help coordinate the party's effort with McCain's campaign and to lead the joint voter contact program, according to GOP sources. Also involved in the effort will be Rudy Giuliani's former campaign manager. Frank Donatelli will serve as the new deputy chairman of the RNC and will serve as the chief liaison between the committee and the campaign. A veteran Republican strategist, Donatelli has worked on numerous GOP presidential campaigns and in the Reagan White House. He's currently a lobbyist at McGuire Woods but will take a leave to join the committee. His wife, Becki, works for McCain, handling his online presence. Leading the so-called Victory organization will be Carly Fiorina. The former CEO of Hewlett-Packard got behind McCain early on and has been a frequent surrogate. She also traveled with him in Michigan and helped carry his economic message there. The Victory effort serves as the party's primary voter contact organization and is aimed at helping Republicans from McCain on down the ballot. Fiorina will serve as chairwoman in a spokeswoman and public advocate capacity. Leading the fundraising effort for the Victory operation will be Lew Eisenberg, a former partner at Goldman Sachs and longtime Republican donor. Like Fiorina, Eisenberg got behind McCain early on. He was named one of McCain's first national finance co-chairmen in 2006. He'll serve as finance chairman for Victory. And helping the RNC and Victory effort will be former Giuliani campaign manager Mike DuHaime. He may not be rolled out tomorrow, but DuHaime will play a key role in working on the political side, advising on voter contact and GOTV strategy. Before running Giuliani's bid, DuHaime served as political director at the RNC.
