Cherry Hill (NJ) Mayor Dave Fleisher announced today that the Township closed on the purchase of Holly Ravine Farm, officially preserving the 23-acre property for Cherry Hill residents to enjoy as protected open space forever.
“This is a significant milestone in the history of our Township and is important to our environment, our neighborhoods and our future,” Fleisher said. “I am pleased that with the support of our Township Council we can now add Holly Ravine Farm to the hundreds of acres of preserved open space that we enjoy throughout Cherry Hill.”
Fleisher led the Township in the purchase of the farm from the Gilmour family, which had owned the land since the 1930s. The property, once a dairy farm, is located at the intersection of Evesham and Springdale roads.
“Our family is thrilled that the legacy of Holly Ravine Farm will be preserved forever,” Robert Gilmour said. “We are confident that the Township will be a good steward of the land and are happy to be part of creating a greener Cherry Hill.”
The Township purchased the property for $3,859,000, which was consistent with recent independent third-party appraisals and is applying for grants from state and county open space preservation programs to help fund the purchase.
“The preservation of Holly Ravine Farm is a smart investment in the quality of life in our Township,” Council President Bill Carter said. “This is going to pay dividends for a long time as the land will remain open space for all to enjoy.”
Council Member Sangeeta Doshi, who along with Council Member Jennifer Apell, serves as a Council liaison to the Township’s Green Team, celebrated the preservation of the farm.
“Holly Ravine farm holds an important place in our history — and our hearts,” Doshi said. “Generations of Cherry Hill residents have such fond memories of the farm and now future generations will be able to make their own memories and share in this special open space.”
In addition to Holly Ravine Farm, Cherry Hill has also preserved the Kingston Swim Club property, Woodcrest Country Club, the Masonic Lodge, Springhouse Farm, Croft Farm, Chapel Avenue Park, and the Brunetti tract in the Colwick neighborhood.
