On Yet Another Front, Sherrill's Shrouded In Secrecy

New Jersey State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris, Passaic) released the following statement regarding his first OPRA request from July 23 seeking government records that would show, among other things, which elections self-declared noncitizens have voted.

The request also sought records showing the extent to which other noncitizens have been registered to vote and how that is being allowed to happen.  The Secretary of State's Office requested three extensions to deadlines to produce the records, and then abruptly denied the request with claims the request was too broad.

"For almost three years, with eight of those months during the Sherrill Administration, people in the Secretary of State's Office have known that 6,600 people were registered to vote after declaring themselves to be noncitizens.  And for the past month and a half, the Sherrill Administration has refused to produce public records in their possession showing in which elections they voted, and whether any tied or close elections were swung as a result.

"You would think the Sherrill Administration and the Secretary of State's Office would live up to claims of being transparent and finally release the records.  They have allowed, or maybe directed, the government office that has known for three years that noncitizens have been voting to hide from the press and public where those noncitizens have been voting.   The secrecy is like dumping gas on public distrust that rightly runs deep, and they have no one to blame but themselves.

"The Governor needs to stop insinuating no local elections have turned on noncitizen voting. The Parsippany Mayor’s race was decided by 70 votes from thousands cast. Did these illegal voters have an effect on the outcome? My constituents have a right to know. She needs to order the Secretary of State to release the records that will prove if she was right, or if she's been filling the room with hot air.   Why is she protecting the corrupt agency that created a mess and is now stonewalling the release of public records to the press and public?  It's Stockholm Syndrome at best, or something much worse."

Noncitizens almost certainly voted in local elections over the past three years that resulted in ties or where margins of victory were by as little as a single vote.  The Governor has insinuated no election results were impacted by noncitizens without ever producing a single government record that would back up that claim.  Several elections resulted in ties or single vote margins of victory.

On August 28, Senator Pennacchio submitted a new OPRA request — this time limiting it to the public records that show where noncitizens (without names or private information) have been voting. Yesterday, the Secretary of State's Office asked for an almost three-week extension of time to produce a single government record in their possession showing where they have voted.

Fentanyl trafficking at the southern border collapsed 56% and fentanyl-linked deaths plunged 22% in a single year. The Trump Administration cut illegals off taxpayer benefits, revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals, carried out the largest denaturalization effort in history, and launched a nationwide crackdown on illegal alien CDL fraud to get unvetted drivers off America’s roads.

Making Communities Safe Again President Trump ended Democrats’ sick war on law enforcement and restored the simple idea that violent criminals belong behind bars. The U.S. murder rate fell to a historic low in 2025 — the lowest level in 125 years — after the largest annual drop in violent crime in American history. Preliminary data show the collapse continuing in the first half of 2026, with violent crime down another 10%, murders down another 23%, and rapes down another 18.6% over the same period last year. The Trump Administration has captured nine of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives — more than twice as many as the entire previous four-year Administration — and five of the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters. NJ GOP: Lt Governor Must Resign IMMEDIATELY!

NJGOP Chairwoman Christine Giordano Hanlon has called on Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell to resign immediately, following continued reports about the investigation into allegations of his inappropriate conduct toward women.

“On Friday after reviewing the bombshell report by David Wildstein in the Globe, we laid out a series of questions that the public needed answers to, including ‘when did Governor Sherrill know?’” said Chairwoman Hanlon.  “We now have the answer as reported in BINJE: months ago.” 

“According to reports, an outside investigation led by a former Attorney General began in the late spring and the Lieutenant Governor sat with investigators two months ago. And in all that time, the Sherrill Administration told the people of New Jersey nothing — while Dale Caldwell continued to serve as Lieutenant Governor, as Secretary of State, and repeatedly as Acting Governor of this state while Governor Sherrill was off campaigning for congressional candidates in other states. 

“Let that sink in. New Jersey had an Acting Governor under investigation for inappropriate conduct toward women and potential ethics violations, and the administration that promised to be the most transparent in history kept it quiet for months,” continued Hanlon.  “The fact that this investigation has been going on for months clearly indicates that these are very serious allegations.”

“Moreover, Governor Sherrill, the first woman Democratic Governor in New Jersey, allowed the potential behavior to continue for months while shrouding the investigation in secrecy, putting more women potentially at risk.  This could be the worst handling of a crisis in modern history. Caldwell should have been placed on leave during the investigation. As a mother of three daughters, I consider this an outrage!”

“The Administration’s statement in response to the reporting is equally disturbing, passing the situation off as a ‘personnel’ matter in an effort to shield the information from the public.  The Governor and Lieutenant Governor should not be considered ‘personnel’ – they are the highest level elected officials in the state and must be held to the highest standard of accountability and transparency.”

“Caldwell is not only the Lieutenant Governor but is also our Secretary of State — the official charged with overseeing New Jersey’s elections. That office cannot function under these circumstances. For the good of the state, and out of respect for the women whose complaints prompted this investigation, Dale Caldwell must resign as Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State immediately.”

NJ GOP Demands Answers On Unlawful Voters

New Jersey State Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-Morris, Passaic) and Assembly Republican Leader John DiMaio (R-Hunterdon, Somerset, Warren) sent a letter to Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC requesting answers to a ten-question inquiry surrounding the unlawful registration of at least 6,600 noncitizens that resulted in hundreds of noncitizens voting.

An excerpt from the letter reads:

“As you are aware, on July 21, 2026, Governor Sherrill disclosed that the State’s voter registration system has been compromised, resulting in the unlawful registration of at least 6,600 noncitizens between June 2023 and June 2024. Given the gravity of this breach, it is imperative that we take all necessary steps to guarantee the security of future elections, ensure accountability, and restore public confidence in our democratic process. As your firm has been retained by the Sherrill Administration to investigate this matter, we are requesting that you provide answers to a number of questions that remain unaddressed at this time.

As we are confident you will agree, all New Jerseyans deserve a voter registration system that is accurate, secure, and worthy of the public's trust. To that end, a transparent and robust response to the foregoing questions will prevent future failures in the voter registration process and help restore confidence in the integrity of our elections.”

Bucco: Gov's Move Still Leaves Many Questions

Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-Morris, Passaic) released the following statement regarding Governor Sherrill’s update of the Democrat voter registration disaster where at least 6,600 non-citizens were registered to vote, leading to approximately 400 non-citizens voting.

“I’m glad to see that the Governor and Lieutenant Governor have agreed to work with the federal government and provide all of the necessary information needed to investigate this unbelievable situation,” said Sen. Bucco. 

“However, today’s announcement by the Governor doesn’t answer the many serious questions that remain. Like why is the investigation limited, and how can anyone say with confidence that only 6,600 non-citizens were improperly registered? New Jerseyans deserve to know exactly what happened, how it happened, and whether there are other problems we have yet to uncover. Restoring confidence in our elections will require complete transparency from the state, cooperation from all necessary parties, and a commitment to leaving no stone unturned. 

"Establishing a bipartisan Select Committee with subpoena power, as I have suggested, that can work directly with the federal and state governments would get the answers New Jerseyans deserve and make sure we take every necessary step to fix the problems and prevent something like this from ever happening again.”

Pennacchio To Governor: Cooperate With Feds!

New Jersey State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris, Passaic) called on Governor Sherrill to fully cooperate with federal authorities to investigate New Jersey’s non-citizen voter registration scandal and support legislative efforts to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

On a recent episode of Ask Governor Sherrill, the governor dismissed calls for a bipartisan select committee with subpoena power as a witch hunt and again miscategorized the scandal as a software error. IDEMIA, the vendor responsible for the Motor Vehicle Commission’s software said that the automatic voter registration of non-citizens was a setting approved by New Jersey officials.

“This is a stunning revelation from IDEMIA that demands accountability from Murphy administration officials,” said Senator Pennacchio. “The Governor stated this situation requires answers, but those answers will not come from wasting taxpayer dollars, dismissing legitimate questions from lawmakers as a witch hunt, or obsessing over the President. New Jerseyans deserve to know the full scope of this administrative malpractice. Is the state-led investigation examining only the so-called software error or is it looking into broader concerns raised by IDEMIA, the 75,000 or more non-citizens reportedly summoned for jury duty every year, and the significant discrepancy between the state’s 6,600 figure and the Department of Homeland Security’s estimate of 35,000 non-citizens on our voter rolls? That is why I called on the U.S. Attorney to expand its investigation and ensure every possible avenue is being pursued. Taxpayers deserve an investigation that follows the facts wherever they lead, not one limited by partisan convenience.”  

Last week, Senator Pennacchio called on Assistant U.S. Attorney Harmeet Dhillon to expand their investigation after it was reported that 75,000 non-citizens are summoned for jury duty each year in New Jersey.

During the episode, Governor Sherrill “snidely” dismissed concerns, as reported by Insider NJ, that more than 75,000 non-citizens are summoned for jury duty each year in New Jersey, noting that various state databases are used to compile the state's jury pool.

“The Governor offered to ‘educate’ me, but the facts already did. Here’s a refresher—the Administrative Office of the Courts confirmed that jury lists are compiled using records from the Division of Elections, MVC, and the Division of Taxation. The simple fact is that the same state systems contributed to multiple government functions, and this scandal proves those systems deserve scrutiny. Instead of lecturing lawmakers, the Governor should focus on providing answers.”
