Today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie issued the following statement in light of news that Justice Rivera-Soto will not be seeking reappointment to the Supreme Court of New Jersey. While Governor Christie praised Justice Rivera-Soto's dedicated service in a letter sent earlier today, the Governor was explicitly clear that he will not provide a nominee for Justice Rivera-Soto's seat until Anne Patterson receives a fair hearing as required by New Jersey's Constitution.
Governor Chris Christie said, "245 days ago I nominated Anne Patterson to the State Supreme Court because of her high level of legal intellect, character and compassion. Today, 245 days later, she has yet to receive a fair hearing as required by New Jersey’s Constitution while a seat on our highest court continues to remain vacant. I will not provide a nominee to fill Justice Rivera-Soto's seat until Anne Patterson receives the hearing that she deserves and that the Senate is constitutionally obligated to provide."
In fact, over the past 20 years, the average confirmation time for a State Supreme Court Justice nominee submitted by both Democratic and Republican governors is just 25 days.
"It is completely irresponsible that while it took just 88 days for Elana Kagan to become the 112th Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Anne Patterson is still without a hearing for no good reason and that the Senate has failed to give her the same consideration and deference Republicans and Democrats gave Justice Kagan," Governor Christie concluded.

Kean: Dems Should Support Pay To Play Ban
New Jersey State Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean, Jr. (R- Westfield) issued the following statement in response to comments made by Senate Majority Leader Barbara Buono and Assembly Majority Leader Joe Cryan regarding pay to play reform:
"Any calls for pay to play reform cannot be considered serious or credible unless they include Republicans' repeated proposals to establish a blanket pay to play ban that extends to everyone- including labor unions. Public employee unions receive among the largest state and local government contracts in existence, yet are allowed to spend freely on political campaigns and activities. I stand ready and willing to work with anyone who is serious about enacting reform that treats everyone equally under the law."

About Those Gas Prices; Whose Fault Now?
We're here in South Florida and here's what we've noticed as we travel about: the price of a gallon of regular grade gas is hovering around $3.30.
So the price of fuel at the pump has crept up and up and up.
And at the rate things are going,some people say that gas may even hit $4.00 per gallon by the time the summer vacation months roll around.
You heard that right: FOUR DOLLARS PER GALLON!
A few years back when gas prices crept upward the hew and cry from the Democrat Congress was ear-splitting and the daily barrage was endless. And the mainstream media joined in as well. And you know who Reid sand Pelosi and the media blamed. Yes, they blamed the then President and Vice President of the United States. And they said that the President and Vice President were way too cozy with big oil. And they blamed Halliburton as well.
But now that we have a different President and Vice President, Reid and Pelosi are silent. And the mainstream media have turned mute as well. They're not pointing fingers at the White House now. No, no --not a sound is heard.

And now we have 10 percent unemployment and a far more severe economic situation than we had then. But not a peep is heard from Harry and Nancy and the mainstream media. And in fact neither Barack nor Joe are talking about it very much either.
But gas prices still keep going up.
And I ask you: Who,s fault is it now? Hmmmmm?

Advice For The New GOP Congress
We have a rule in public relations that applies to almost every situation: Hit the ground running and stay out in front of issues and events.
That would be my first bit of advice to the new GOP House and newly-empowered GOP Senate minority that takes office this week.
The new Republican leaders and members of Congress should waste no time.
They should move quickly and confidently.
They must get about their work with a self-assured swiftness.
They must set the agenda promptly with bold, definitive action.
They should not wait to react to events. Instead --they must act. They must make things happen.
If their plan is to repeal Obamacare (and that's what they were elected to do) then they should go ahead and pass repeal legislation. They have the votes to do it in the House. So, this should be the very first order of business. Pass the repel and let the Democrats do the reacting.
The days of the GOP being the party of REaction should now be over. The days of action must now begin.
There is no mystery about what the GOP agenda should be: smaller government, lower taxes, less government regulation, an end to runaway spending, a new, business-friendly, pro- growth climTe, more personal freedom and individual initiative.
The GOP should not hesitate to pass legislation along these lines. If the Democrats want to thwart the legislation or if the president wants to veto it, so be it. Then, the blame for poorly-placed REaction or inaction will be on the Democrats.
But for now let the Republicans act.
Let them take the lead. Let them get out in front. Let them set the agenda.
And let the revolution begin.

Happy One, One, One One
Hope you've had (or are still having) a happy 1-1-11.
We won't have another day (or date) like this until 11-11-11.
It's a strange sort of date --just an accident of the calendar.
And so New Years Day itself is an accident of the calendar. So, in that sense this goofy date is perfect for a very goofy faux-holiday.

South Beach: A Vibrant, Seaside Minestrone
We spent the first day of the new year in South Beach, Miami Beach.
With its various dining and entertainment districts, its art deco hotels and its beach walk and vibrant public spaces (not to mention the beach itself) South Beach is a minestrone of colors, cultures, languages and lifestyles.
But it all blends together in a thoroughly modern (or moderne) American atmosphere.
There'd are so many influences and so many sights and sounds that the architecture, the palms and the people combine for a continuous show.
And the best thing about it is this: admission is free.
With its various dining and entertainment districts, its art deco hotels and its beach walk and vibrant public spaces (not to mention the beach itself) South Beach is a minestrone of colors, cultures, languages and lifestyles.
But it all blends together in a thoroughly modern (or moderne) American atmosphere.
